Solid police procedural thriller - set in a fictional future version of NYC. I haven‘t read anything else in this In Death universe and this is book #58 - so clearly a lot of character connection that I arguably missed not reading the others, but the author does a decent job of giving you the gist even if you‘re coming in cold. I definitely walked away enjoying Eve…and hunky Roarke.

It gave me The Closer vibes. 🥹 #AuthorAMonth

The last of my fall cozy novels for thisbyear might actually be my favourite. Loved this, even though instill found the main female character annoying. But it turned out the right way, the way I knew it needed to. #58-2025

Is the woman in the title supposed to be Jac, Faye, or Angela? All three were unhinged. Jac was infuriating—too impulsive and hotheaded. I also don‘t understand this recurring theme in books where mothers are ashamed of their daughters for wanting to become writers. That just doesn‘t ring true to anything I‘ve personally seen or experienced. Why do so many authors keep writing it this way? Book #58 in 2025

No children for me to share this with, but it's still an intentional and purposeful read. I love how Trevor Noah's brain works. #58-2024

A very fun, quick summer read. Far fetched and Cinderella-esque, but sweet and fun, did I say fun yet? What could go wrong with a “collaborators with benefits” agreement? There are some VERY steamy sex scenes, especially at the end… Book #58 in 2024

This is #58 in a wonderful series that I still really enjoy. This one was no exception. While this series is set in the near future, they are not sci-fi but true mysteries (police procedurals) with a wonderful cast of characters and dark, cleverly plotted stories that include some humour. In this one Eve (a lieutenant in the NYPD) is after a psychopathic teenage killer. I recommend starting with the first one which is “Naked in Death“. 4.5/5!

Smythe-smith #2. Still cute. And not a Bridgerton in site. #58-2023
