This comics collection, nominated for the Aurora Best Graphic Novel award, about birds living on the moon is decidedly weird. Even though I didn't understand completely how things like the fungal internet worked, I happily enjoyed the glorious artwork.

This got so many stellar reviews that I decided to ignore the fact that it‘s not my usual style and see what all the fuss was about, but it‘s just too weird for me. I think books with all animal characters is a trope that really doesn‘t work for me. I loved the Redwall series and some other kids stuff like it growing up, but I‘m pretty sure I‘ve disliked everything I‘ve tried with that conceit as an adult. I know it‘s a traditional vehicle for ⬇️

IndoorDame social/political commentary, but as that commentary is the only part of this I‘m enjoying I think I‘ll just move on. 2y
RowReads1 I understand. I love animals in graphic novels and any book. I haven‘t read this one. His drawing style is off-putting to me even though I‘ve liked some of his work. 2y
LitStephanie I feel the same way! I couldn't even get into Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk and David Sedaris is one of my favorite authors. 2y
IndoorDame @RowReads1 Yes, the art style is strange. Definitely not my favorite. 2y
IndoorDame @LitStephanie I think I may have finally learned my lesson about this at least. This is actually the second animal narrative I bailed on this month! So hopefully that‘ll be enough to keep me from attempting them in the future 😂 2y
