The only requirement of any friendship is loyalty once that‘s lost through betrayal lack of sense prejudice jealousy misunderstanding or misguided friendship with another that friendship is doomed and enemies are created , who was it that said you can never trust a friend who is friends with your enemy . Wonderful second instalment to what has become one of my favourite series so far , I can‘t wait to jump into the last of the trilogy .

Amara complicated her already precarious life so much in this book. It was incredibly stressful. The ending we got in this book was the exact result of her decisions and it was unfortunate but I couldn‘t see any other way out of it. Curious to see how this trilogy will end. I love some of these characters, I‘m scared for them and I‘m hoping happy endings. That being said, there is also a couple characters I want to see dead ☠️🤬

I couldn‘t put this book down! Friendship, betrayal, forbidden love, drama - it just had everything I was looking for to pull me out of the reading slump.

The second on this trilogy, we continue the story of Amara, now living as a concubine to a rich man. Set in Pompeii and rich with detail of the lives of slaves, prostitutes and rich Lords and ladies.

Cuilin I must read this, loved the Wolf Den. 13mo

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join in if you want!

Amara makes me so anxious. I don‘t know whether she‘s a good person making bad decisions in a bad environment or a bad person trying to make good decisions and failing miserably. I don‘t know whether she‘s selfish or brave or foolish. I‘m terrified that she‘ll end up badly and equally worried what harm her “success” might inflict (on herself and others). But it‘s atmospheric and real and you can bet I‘m coming back for the third installment.
