Other Ever Afters: New Queer Fairy Tales | Melanie Gillman
7 posts | 9 read | 3 to read
In this new feminist, queer fairy tale collection, the princesses, mermaids, barmaids, children, and wise old women who have been forced to sit on the sidelines in classic stories take center stage to fulfill their own dreams and find the love, power, and happiness they deserve.

I really liked the concept of these queer fairy tale retellings, I think I just didn't care for some of the stories that were chosen to retell. There were two stories that I really loved but the rest left me feeling meh. Beautiful art though, I loved the colored pencil designs. I don't know if the author is planning another collection like this in future but I would give it a go if they do

I loved how equally fairytale and down with the establishment this book was. The stories were cute and sometimes funny. I had never heard of half the fairytales in here, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. 5⭐️

Even though fairy tales aren‘t usually my jam, these wholesome stories offered cool twists to some of the fairy tale tropes, enough to make them enjoyable even for an adult. I love the queer elements and the art is great- cartoony at times, but lovely vibrant colors and even pastel shades, all done with colored pencils. Overall, a lovely book, but a low pick just because it wasn‘t my usual thing.

3.5 stars- I liked the feminist twist and new fairy tales. However, I'd say it's a bit more middle-grade than YA. It was a fun and VERY quick read!

The pastel rainbow of this queer alt-fairytale book cover goes well with this “Roller“ hand dyed yarn, part of the Birds collection at Wool And Works. #litsycrafters #booksandyarn
