8 posts | 9 read | 1 reading | 7 to read
First in a new series by Olivia Blacke, Vinyl Resting Place follows three sisters who discover that opening a family business can be murder. "A charming cozy for a new generation of mystery readers . . . Vinyl Resting Place is a delight!" Elle Cosimano, USA Today bestselling author of Finlay Donovan Is Killing It When Juni Jessup and her sisters Tansy and Maggie put all their beans in one basket to open Sip & Spin Records, a record-slash-coffee shop in Cedar River, Texas, they knew there could be some scratches on the track, but no one was expecting to find a body deader than disco in the supply closet. Family is everything to the Jessups, so when their uncle is arrested by Junis heartbreaking ex on suspicion of murder, the sisters dont skip a beat putting Sip & Spin up for bail collateral. But their tune changes abruptly when Uncle Calvin disappears, leaving them in a grind. With their uncles freedom and the future of their small business on the line, its up to Juni and her sisters to get in the groove and figure out whodunit before the killers trailand the coffeegoes cold. Music and mocha seem like a blend that should be Knockin' On Heaven's Door, but caught up in a murder investigation with her family and their life savings on the line, Juni wonders if she might be on the "Highway to Hell" instead.

My mum won VINYL RESTING PLACE in a contest and passed it along to me, and I‘ve been hauling it around for about a year. This is the week I finally read it and stick it in a local LFL! It‘s got good cozy mystery energy as of 50%, with lots of family dynamics, music, and tasty-sounding coffee drinks. Basically, it‘s a good fit for some pain day backyard reading with the warring schnauzers.

BookNAround “The warring schnauzers.” 😂😂😂 14mo
xicanti @BookNAround they‘re deeply commitment to their backyard play fights. It‘s serious business. 14mo

The characters were engaging and the mystery was compelling. The author‘s use of humor hit all the right notes but I am not sold on the romantic triangle yet.

This was a different cozy mystery than I usually read. I like the idea of it taking place around a vinyl shop. The mystery itself kept me guessing through the end. I will be picking up the next book in the series.

All good. Except the heroine drives a tricycle. Not quite bad ass enough.

Things I loved about this cozy mystery (the first in a new series): the relationships, the love potentials based on high school relationships (as someone who moved back home after being away for years after college, the re-emergence of high school drama spoke to me), and the setting.

Things I didn‘t love are in the comments and hidden, but they weren‘t enough to keep me from picking up the second book when it‘s published in July. 😄

ChasingOm I didn‘t love that the plot focused more on exonerating her uncle than it did on the murder itself and I didn‘t love how many times the author repeated certain things - like how questionable her uncle‘s moral code could be. 🙄 2y
Bookzombie That‘s a cozy photo! 2y

Fun first book in a new series that has just enough family, romance issues, and mystery. The mystery and the story were pretty zippy; even if the murderer was hinted at pretty early, the read to the end was a lot of fun.

#OminousOctober

The newest #cozy mystery #ARC in my Kindle TBR. It‘s the first book in a new series set in a record shop.🎧 I like the punny title.

Eggs Very punny! Love the cover! 2y
Susanita Of course there‘s a cat on the cover! 😻 2y
DebinHawaii @Susanita is it truly a cozy mystery without a cat on the cover?!? 😹 2y
Susanita IKR! Even if the cat is only mentioned once in the story. 2y
