I absolutely loved this! There are ghosts and a haunted house and people who can communicate with the dead and a mystery at the heart of the story that was just heartbreaking…what more could you want? I wasn‘t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did but it was great! And the narrator was great too. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Made it through this one just in the nick of time!!! 🎉 It was sooooo good! Maybe a little convoluted, but worth the many threads woven together.

GirlNamedJesse Nothing like racing the clock on a library checkout! 😂 Good for you; I usually end up buying it because I can‘t finish in time. lol 12mo

3.5 stars rounded up to 4

There is a lot going on in this book which at times made the story feel convoluted, but never dull.

With a past and present story structure, this tale examines mother-daughter relationships, sibling relationships, toxic relationships, friendships, a missing black girl, ghosts and a creepy haunted house.
And trauma. Lots of trauma.

I told you it was a lot.

Thoroughly enjoyed Delicious Monsters. Falls more on the horror side, but it‘s not too bad. Mostly I just didn‘t read it before bed.

While I mostly enjoyed the writing, I struggled with the story. I had a hard time connecting with the characters, and they fail to make me feel any emotion. The transitions between POVs were not fluid and pacing was also inconsistent. There were parts that were clunkly and the book was much longer than necessary. The story had a lot of potential but the execution didn't hit the mark for me.

This is a supernatural psychological thriller that has surprising depth. It deals with abuse (both physical & sexual), the resulting trauma and the love-hate relationship between mothers and daughters. While confusing at times, it did make sense at the end. I loved the northern Ontario setting and the feistiness of the teenage characters. I do wish, however, more was explained about Brittany's mother. While not my usual genre I liked it. 4/5
