Having just delivered her 1,922nd baby in Iceland, and with a serious storm on the way, she goes through her grand aunt‘s letters and manuscripts and discovers strange and beautiful reflections on birth, death, and human nature.

A lovely story set in Iceland just before Christmas. It about a family of midwifes over generations. I really enjoyed it.

This book follows Dómhildur, a midwife from a long line of midwives who lives in her grandaunt‘s apartment and discovers several decades-worth of her aunt‘s letters and manuscripts. What little plot there is centers around Dómhildur‘s interactions with people in her apartment and at work. ⬇️

The end of January was crazy for me. I feel like this past weekend was a chance for me to refocus my reading. I even had a little downtime for folding tessellations. These three are from Advent of Tess taught by Gathering Folds on YouTube. I‘m obviously late for Advent, but time is relative. My goal is to finish at least three of these books this week.

It finally arrived!! I preordered this months ago! I can‘t wait to dive in over the upcoming holiday weekend!

Really enjoyed this, but it was quite different from what I was expecting. More slice-of-life and intellectual/philosophical than plot-driven and emotional. Quiet and poetic contemplation of the human condition—light and darkness, birth and death, purpose, coincidence, connection, vulnerability and more. Look forward to reading her backlist.
