lost boy lost girl
lost boy lost girl: A Novel | Peter Straub
7 posts | 13 read | 11 to read
A woman commits suicide for no apparent reason. A week later, her sonbeautiful, troubled fifteen-year-old Mark Underhillvanishes from the face of the earth. To his uncle, horror novelist Timothy Underhill, Marks inexplicable absence feels like a second death. After his sister-in-laws funeral, Tim searches his hometown of Millhaven for clues that might help him unravel this mystery of death and disappearance. He soon learns that a pedophilic murderer is on the loose in the vicinity, and that shortly before his mothers suicide Mark had become obsessed with an abandoned house where he imagined the killer might have taken refuge. No mere empty building, the house on Michigan Street whispers from attic to basement with the echoes of a long-hidden true-life horror story, and Tim Underhill comes to fear that in investigating its unspeakable history, Mark stumbled across its last and greatest secret: a ghostly lost girl who may have coaxed the needy, suggestible boy into her mysterious domain. With lost boy lost girl, Peter Straub affirms once again that he is the master of literary horror. From the Hardcover edition.

Mehso-so

I've only ever read The Talisman by this author, which was co-authored with King. I think this book probably wasn't the best to start with.

The haunted house aspect was quite different and I liked the time spent there. However, the rest of the story felt disjointed making it difficult to follow at times.

I was confused while reading. Certain parts had impressive writing and others felt rushed. I will have to try another by this author.

AmandaBlaze Ghost Story is probably his best book. 2y
Addison_Reads @AmandaBlaze I have heard good things about that one, so I'll definitely add it to my TBR. 2y

Balked at 35 pages. It felt like a rambling teen fiction, was a bit unfocused and I had a high sense of this being very unexciting for me.

Book 12 for #CrushtheRush @Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick !!

Book 3 for #ReadYourWay @TheSpineView !!

Straub has a knack for "haunted" houses. A young boy becomes obsessed with a house in his neighborhood that has been empty and shunned and avoided for decades. The house was owned by a serial killer Long ago. The boy spends more and more time in the house, telling his friend there is a girl there whom he has befriended. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Ebook deal today, $1.99

tricours Ebook deal where? On Amazon the ebook is 9.49 and the print 7.99 😛 I kind of want to give Straub a second chance - but only if I more or less get his book for free. 8y
DGRachel @tricours I just checked Amazon and it's $1.99 now. 😊 8y
KrisConstantReader @tricours I got it on iBooks but it should be available most other places. 8y
tricours @DGRachel when I followed the Book Bub email the price was reduced, but to 2.49 or so for me. Too expensive for an author I was quite unimpressed with the first time around 😉 8y
