In this explosive fantasy debut, a provincial girl must work with an infuriatingly handsome prince to escape a nightmarish curse that forces them to relive the same night over and over. "The time-loop fantasy you never knew you needed, where the fairytale ball is bloody and Cinderella is the Final Girl."Gina Chen, New York Times bestselling author of Violet Made of Thorns Seventeen-year-old Anas just wants tonight to end. As an outsider at the kingdoms glittering anniversary ball, she has no desire to rub shoulders with the nations most eligible (and pompous) bachelorsespecially not the notoriously roguish Prince Leo. But at the stroke of midnight, an explosion rips through the palace, killing everyone in its path. Including her. The last thing Anas sees is fire, smoke, chaos . . . and then she wakes up in her bedroom, hours before the ball. No one else remembers the deadly attack or believes her warnings of disaster. Not even when it happens again. And again. And again. If shes going to escape this nightmarish time loop, Anas must take control of her own fate and stop the attack before it happens. But the court's gilded surface belies a rotten core, full of restless nobles grabbing at power, discontented commoners itching for revolution, and even royals who secretly dream of taking the throne. It's up to Anas to untangle these knots of deadly deceptions . . . if she can survive past midnight.

Book 3 for #trappedinaspookyhouse

I thought the premise was intriguing & adding the scifi time loop to a fairytale was compelling. But in the end, I felt the book was a bit too long. Overall, not a bad read & it‘s a fairly easy read—I finished it in a couple of hours. But a bit more editing, fleshing out the magic system, and maybe a tighter plot would have made this a better read.

PuddleJumper Oh dear! I didn't pick very good ones! 😅 1y
wanderinglynn @PuddleJumper I loved Starter Villain! And I did like Ballad, the writing was musical. And I rated this one 3 stars. I liked it, it just got a bit long—too many time loops. 😉 1y

This was very well written for a debut novel. The way the author created a time loop story was executed exceptionally well, so the occasional repetition wasn't boring. The best way to describe it is Cinderella at the ball, which will explode at midnight if she doesn't solve the mystery.

StayCurious Love the cover 1y

Really enjoyed this book. The repeat of things did become tedious at times but I like the ending.

KateReadsYA I saw you post about this a couple days ago and was wondering to myself "I wonder if she'll feel the repetitiveness was a bit much"?!?! Hahaa glad I wasn't alone on that! I feel like the ending really made me love it more. 1y

Anaiis is doing her duty - looking for a husband at a ball - when the palace is attacked. After watching the dying prince, she‘s shot and killed - and then she wakes up that afternoon before the ball begins. Then it happens again and again. In a Groundhog Day scenario, she had figure out who is attacking the palace and why she‘s stuck in a time loop. With each life, the pieces come together, but so do Anaiis and the Prince. Couldn‘t put it down!

5feet.of.fury The cover is gorgeous! 2y
BriannaT @5feet.of.fury one of the reasons I subscribe to OwlCrate is because I love the (often shiny) exclusive covers like the dragon I am lol 2y

A semi-chunky book that I read in two days!! That's how much I enjoyed it. And it's a looping story where Anaïs has to relive the same disastrous night where the royal family at the anniversary ball is murdered. It's a story focused mainly on Anaïs with a sprinkle of romance, much mystery, many lives lived, and having to learn to deal with the consequences of our actions. Very exciting read! #fantasy

There was sooooo much to unpack in this story. Anaïs was a very likeable character who endured so much and although It is very repetitive in a sense that it's a time loop fantasy the ending really pulled it all together and I am glad that I read it.
