Fix the System, Not the Women
Fix the System, Not the Women | Laura Bates
3 posts | 1 read | 5 to read
'I read this with great optimism and hope' Dr Pragya Agarwal _____________________________________________________ Too often, we blame women. For walking home alone at night. For not demanding a seat at the table. For not overcoming the odds that are stacked against them. This distracts us from the real problem: the failings and biases of a society that was not built for women. In this explosive book, feminist writer and activist Laura Bates exposes the systemic prejudice at the heart of five of our key institutions. Education Politics Media Policing Criminal justice Combining stories with shocking evidence, Fix the System, Not the Women is a blazing examination of sexual injustice and a rallying cry for reform. ________________________________________________ PRAISE FOR MEN WHO HATE WOMEN Brilliantly fierce and eye-opening Guardian Profoundly important a book everyone should read Observer Laura Bates is showing us the path to both intimate and global survival Gloria Steinem

ChaoticMissAdventures This!! What a great quote. I don't know who said it but the phrase "We need to spend less time focused on how women should prevent rape and more time teaching our boys and men not to rape" has really stuck with me. 2y

Pickpick

I admire Laura Bates a lot, she is committed and passionate and really knows her stuff.
I feel very depressed when I read her books. I‘m 55, it genuinely feels that the patriarchy and capitalism is worse than when I was 15.
I‘ll keep on being informed and shouting out, but it‘s very depressing.

squirrelbrain I have this on Audible to listen to….sometime! 2y
TrishB Yes, sometime. It‘s not easy reading/listening. 2y
Bookwormjillk It feels like we‘re going backwards 2y

Lindy If we keep standing up for ourselves and each other, I believe the system will crumble. 2y
KathyWheeler I‘m 65, and I agree with you. It feels much worse than when I was 15. 2y
Cazxxx I‘m 47 and feel the same, things are going backwards rather than progressing 😔 2y
CarolynM I think there is progress being made, in this country anyway, but it doesn‘t always feel that way. And when I see some of the stuff going on elsewhere I‘m reminded how fragile that progress can be.☹️ 2y
TrishB @Lindy @CarolynM I‘m genuinely glad there is some positivity- and you are from countries I look to in hope. 🤞🏻 2y
TrishB @Bookwormjillk @sarahbarnes @KathyWheeler @Cazxxx it certainly feels like we‘re going backwards in the U.K. 2y
Bookwomble The stronger the groundswell of change, the greater the reactionary pushback, but they can't hold back the incoming tide ✊ 2y
TrishB @Bookwomble I hope not! 2y
