"A mesmerizing story of blackmail, romance, and deception."-Associated Press A parson's daughter, Druscilla Delaney is enthralled by her wealthy, glamorous neighbors-the Framlings-and their handsome son, Fabian. They gift her with a priceless heirloom, a beautiful fan that brings with it a terrible curse./em Beautiful as its peacock feathers may be, the priceless fan hidden deep in the Framling mansion has a legacy of death and destruction. And Druscilla has no idea she's been marked by its curse. But the fan's dark past might prove less of a danger than Fabian Framling himself. Dark, brooding, and dominating, will he be the one to save her from the fan's cruel fate...or cause her demise? Including elements of historical romance and romantic suspense, The India Fan is a spellbinding tale from the Queen of Gothic Romance. Fast-paced and gripping, fans of Georgette Heyer, Mary Stewart, and Daphne Du Maurier will be awestruck by this Victorian gothic thriller complete with romance, murder, and mayhem. Other Titles from Victoria Holt Pride and the Peacock: To secure her inheritance, Jessica Clavering agrees to a marriage of convenience, but will her handsome new husband's desire for her ever surpass his obsession with a famously cursed opal? The Shivering Sands: Caroline Verlaine's sister has gone missing and no one can tell her why. The only option is to go where Roma was last seen-an estate with a deadly history. The Time of the Hunter's Moon: According to legend, a girl will see her future husband at the time of the hunter's moon. But when the handsome stranger revealed to Cordelia Grant disappears after an all-too-brief encounter, she has to wonder: Was he merely an apparition...or something more? On my #bookquilt because I remember finding this book in the library. I was either in 6th or 7th grade, bc I was reading a lot and starting to explore the adult section more and more. My mom was away a lot those 2 years, taking care of my grandmother before we moved to Pa permanently. Reading and eating out a lot was the only way my Dad and I survived. I bought my own copy and read it so much the cover fell off.

Nute I just looked at your previous post and your book quilt is amazing! This post in particular is quite touching. What a special memory of how you and Dad got through your Mom‘s absence while she cared for your grandmother. Lovely! 3y

#3Books I've reread. @OriginalCyn620 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

I recently had to choose 20 of my favorite books for a book quilt someone is making me, so this prompt was easy! I used to re-read all the time, but not so much in recent years bc TBR. But these are comfort reads (The India Fan, which I first read when I was in 7th grade), seasonal reads (The Historian is one of my fav autumn reads) and my all time favorite book (The Night Circus).

OriginalCyn620 I loved The Night Circus! 4y
Scochrane26 I used to read Victoria Holt when I was young, too. I think my sister got into her books, so we had a lot of them. I remember liking the India Fan but haven‘t read it recently. I love the other 2 also. 4y

Mehso-so

Pro: a really great slow burn romance with a strong complex heroine and a really fabulous cover. Con: very pro-British Colonialism in India and significant slut-shaming from the heroine about another character. I read and loved this book when I was a teen and am sooooo disappointed with much of the reread.

Jhullie I loved her books as a teen too. I prefer her earlier, gothic stories, On the Night of the Seventh Moon remains my favourite. 7y

"You know, you should not be frightened of me, for I am very fond of you and the more I see you the fonder I grow."
"That is good of you," I said coolly. "But I must go."
"It is not good of me. It is an involuntary emotion and one for which I cannot personally take credit." #80s

MichelleM This is one of my all time favorites! 8y
