For the First Time, Again
For the First Time, Again | Sylvain Neuvel
6 posts | 5 read | 3 to read
Aster believes she is a normal teenage girl - she is very wrong . . . Teenager Aster barely escapes with her life when her adoptive father is killed in a shooting. Suddenly finding herself under the protection of a special US military unit, she learns that blood tests indicate that she's not even human. Unsure who or what she might be - or if any of this is true - Aster's first instinct is to flee. Unfortunately, she soon finds she is caught between two warring sides: on one, her mortal enemies, the alien Trackers, and on the other, the American government. Then, from the most unexpected quarter, she finds someone offering to help her - someone her instincts tell her can't be trusted . . . Now Aster can be certain of just two things: her blood is more vital than she ever knew and the fate of the world rests upon her survival. For the First Time, Again is the mind-bendingly twisty and unputdownable final book in the breathtaking Take The To The Stars trilogy.

I did it! I found the best cappuccino! Perfect thickness, perfect sourness, perfect cafe atmosphere. I‘m happy.

I‘m also super duper in love with FOR THE FIRST TIME, AGAIN. I can‘t wait to binge read the last hundred pages tonight. Hopefully Neuvel pulls off a stellar ending!

And for supper we had duck breast, broccoli, and Sylvain Neuvel, with Daisy photobombing. Alas, I think this duck spent too long in the freezer, but I‘m really feeling the book so far. It‘s been a year since the last one and I‘ve forgotten a lot, which actually works out well because it puts me on a similar footing with Aster.

dabbe Daisy's like “ 'Sup, Mom? Can I have a bite?“ You're too adorable, Daisy! 🖤🐾🖤 11mo
Bklover I‘ll bet Daisy doesn‘t mind a bit of freezer burn! 10mo
xicanti @dabbe @Bklover Daisy does love her meat snacks, no matter the quality. 10mo

This week‘s tiny library haul. I‘m gonna have a lot of fun with that tiny house book, and I‘m excited for both these novels to boot.

This third & final book in the #TakeThemToTheStarsSeries is the fastest paced of them all! It picks up 10 years after the surprising ending of UNTIL THE LAST OF ME. Aster attends a holiday party with her adopted Pa & everything changes. Soon, she learns the truth of her heritage from an unlikely source and she tackles the problems of the generations before her. It‘s a satisfying end to a fun binge read! Looking forward to more from Neuvel!

The third book in Neuvel's SFF 'Take Them to the Stars' trilogy. Love his books but this one let me down a bit - some plot holes, and I felt the ending didn't fully satisfy the build up from the first two books. And the hero of this book seemed less fully fleshed out than her predecessors.

Nevertheless a fun read with a fantasy story line tied into real world events. Four Stars.

The third and last book in the Take Them To The Stars series.

Spoiler free review:

The 102nd Kibsu, Aster, has to continue what her foremothers started. The teenager is being chased by the US military and giants, and there is the hunter Samael on her track.

It's a fast-paced book about fate and fulfilling one's purpose in life, full of pop-culture references of the 1990s and early 2000s.
