Littens, I‘ve narrowed my masters thesis topic down to the way disability tropes are expanded or constricted by the portrayal of anxiety in middle grade and YA fiction. I‘m starting by reading a ton of MG and YA books where the main character has an anxiety disorder; could be OCD, GAD, they might have panic attacks, etc.

Here are a bunch I‘ve borrowed but I haven‘t read them all yet. Do you have any suggestions from these OR outside of these?

A nod to “Rear Window” with a twelve-year-old suffering from OCD as a main character. An interesting mystery....a toddler goes missing. The ending was a bit simplistic.

I really enjoyed this - a great story about a boy‘s struggle and a mystery on top.

A good read! I just HAD to know what happened to Teddy! And it was my first read on the library app Libby.

The story was good—I liked the mystery of the missing toddler and how working to solve it brought Matthew out of the comfort of his room — but it moved slowly.

I would have liked an author‘s note or other resources regarding OCD.

Slow going, but I just got to the disappearance of the little boy. Let‘s see if things pick up.

This was such a great read! I really enjoyed the characters and how everything played out. The story itself was unlike any book I've read before, and I loved the depth that even some secondary characters had. A really nice novel. I'm excited to read it with my grades 6-8 book club this month!

I don't really have an #OctoberTBR list at the moment. I'm finally in the groove of the school year and have been finding much more time to read, and sometimes having a pile of books waiting for me adds pressure to pleasure reads. For now I'm going to focus on the book I'm currently on 😊 Although I do look forward to a Dracula reread when I begin teaching it in a few weeks! #uncannyoctober

A Definite read for anyone who enjoyed The Curious Case Of The Dog in The Night Time or Memoirs of an Imaginary Friend. The Goldfish Boy shares OCD through a child's eye, and how one boy must overcome it to solve the mystery of the missing 2year old neighbour. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Just downloaded this audiobook. Enjoying the first few chapter while folding laundry. Sigh, Sunday chores. 😶

The shock abduction of a toddler – and the fact that Matthew was last to observe the boy – throws Matthew into the position of crime solver. That's difficult because Matthew has OCD & can't bear leaving his room, or being near the dirty world. What unfolds is a tightly written, life-affirming middle grade mystery. Matthew's condition, while character defining, does not, ultimately, hijack his future or the narrative.

An engaging read with a young narrator who watches his street and is the last to see a young boy before he goes missing! Exciting, fast-paced and heartwarming!

The Goldfish Boy is our Children's Book of the Month for January; a wonderful mystery full of interesting characters that also deals with issues around OCD. This is such a compelling read that we're sure it could become the next Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.
