70 pages in and I‘m not understanding the love for this book. It‘s not funny, there‘s terrible traumatic things happening or that have happened, all the men are bad, and the author REALLY wants me to know how inequitable science is/was. I‘m not disagreeing, but it feels heavy-handed so far. Trying to keep going for my book club, but I might stop if it‘s not better in 30 more pages.

This week‘s reads and up next. I finally got into the swing of reading at the end of the summer (after watching red white & royal blue too many times) and have been in the mood for sweet romances. Please send any recs this way 🥰

This was such a cute book. I haven‘t cried happy tears while reading in a while. Damien was a little reminiscent of Mr. Darcy and I immediately wanted to watch Pride & Prejudice (the 2005 version 😉).

Recently read all 4 of these and really enjoyed them. Are they all some variation of the same plot? Yes. Are they still pretty cute? Also yes. Faking with Benefits was the first one I read, so I think that‘s why I liked it most, but I‘d say these are all worth a read if you like reverse harem romance!

I ended up really enjoying Book Lovers! It was pretty cute and not too cringey. I liked Beach Read a little less, probably because I read it second and there were some plot similarities that left me a bit bored. Overall I‘m definitely an Emily Henry fan.

Compared to my last read, I thought this was worlds better. Multiple first person POVs and jumps in time to before and after the suspicious murder. I don‘t always like first person, but I felt like I knew the characters much more thoroughly in this book. The plot itself was pretty good, with some good red herrings.

The plot had potential, but I didn‘t care for the writing style. Present tense, frequent shifts in POV with each character, and a lot of straightforward “telling” sentences that didn‘t hold my interest. I don‘t usually mind multiple POVs, but I didn‘t feel like I ever had a grasp of who was who the entire book. Might try another from this author, but this one was not for me.

TheAromaofBooks @Karons1 - Hello!! I host the #BookSpin challenge!!! I wrote a very rambly explanation for the challenge on my blog (off Litsy), which can be found here if you're interested - https://thearomaofbooks.wordpress.com/bookspin-bookspinbingo-litsy-challenge/ - the short version is that to participate you make a list of 20 books you've been meaning to read and post it. On the 2nd of the month, I draw two numbers (BookSpin/DoubleSpin) & everyone tries ⬇ 2y
See All 6 Comments
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to read those numbered books from their lists!! There's also a giveaway involved. BookSpinBingo is an expansion on that challenge for people who want to read more than 2 books from their list each month - I also post a bingo board with the numbers all shuffled around. You create your bingo board by matching the numbers with the books on your list, and score bingos by reading them!! Like I said, more details on the blog post, but anyone ⬇ 2y
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) can join, so just let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to be added to the tag list. I'll draw March's numbers tomorrow (Wednesday) so there is still time to make a list for this month!! 2y

I had high hopes for this locked room mystery, but it ended up being pretty average. I sped through the end to find out what happened, but I didn‘t feel very invested in the main character. If I had read this before The Woman in the Window, I think I would have liked it more, but it fell a little flat for me in comparison. Book 3 for #kicktheslump! I met my goal, woohoo!

This ended up being fairly middle of the road. It kept my interest for a while, but towards the end became slightly predictable and ultimately too unbelievable. The final reveal was just not convincing. However, great setting, and the epilogue does make me want to try out the second book when it comes out later this year.

My 7th graders are reading this novel as part of a narrative unit. It‘s definitely not my favorite, but it could be worse. I don‘t usually like adventure/survival novels, so this was very average. Some kids love it, others can‘t wait to be done (and I‘m with them 😂).

KathyWheeler Two of my favorites when I was a kid were My Side of the Mountain and Island of the Blue Dolphins. I probably would have enjoyed this one too. 😊 2y

I adored this little book. It‘s a little like Holes, with an old family curse that needs to be resolved, but the way the author weaves the story is truly magical. A great story for elementary/middle grade level, but anyone can read and enjoy this one. And, it‘s my #doublespin for January!

Very excited for this summer release. I love Natalie Lloyd‘s The Key to Extraordinary. It helped me process (some of) my grief from losing my sister a few years ago. This new book‘s protagonist has OI, the rare bone disease that my late sister had (& the author as well). I already know I‘m going to cry through the whole thing, but it‘ll be worth it. I hope you‘ll check out this author and this book in August.
