It‘s once again been a while, but I have 13 days of school left to teach and I cannot wait to finally have days back to myself and my books 😊 I love teaching, but wow do I need a break after this year. Looking forward to making a dent in my TBR and joining a few readathons from the beach.

Compared to my last read, I thought this was worlds better. Multiple first person POVs and jumps in time to before and after the suspicious murder. I don‘t always like first person, but I felt like I knew the characters much more thoroughly in this book. The plot itself was pretty good, with some good red herrings.

The plot had potential, but I didn‘t care for the writing style. Present tense, frequent shifts in POV with each character, and a lot of straightforward “telling” sentences that didn‘t hold my interest. I don‘t usually mind multiple POVs, but I didn‘t feel like I ever had a grasp of who was who the entire book. Might try another from this author, but this one was not for me.

Got my list! Some books carried over… some added on. My mystery kick isn‘t helping my tbr, just making it longer 😂 #bookspin #bookspinbingo #19 #3

Karons1 I know I‘m being dumb but how do you play your book 📚 spin bingo ? I‘m intrigued 🧐😀 4mo
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4mo
TheAromaofBooks @Karons1 - Hello!! I host the #BookSpin challenge!!! I wrote a very rambly explanation for the challenge on my blog (off Litsy), which can be found here if you're interested - https://thearomaofbooks.wordpress.com/bookspin-bookspinbingo-litsy-challenge/ - the short version is that to participate you make a list of 20 books you've been meaning to read and post it. On the 2nd of the month, I draw two numbers (BookSpin/DoubleSpin) & everyone tries ⬇ 4mo
See All 6 Comments
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) to read those numbered books from their lists!! There's also a giveaway involved. BookSpinBingo is an expansion on that challenge for people who want to read more than 2 books from their list each month - I also post a bingo board with the numbers all shuffled around. You create your bingo board by matching the numbers with the books on your list, and score bingos by reading them!! Like I said, more details on the blog post, but anyone ⬇ 4mo
TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) can join, so just let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to be added to the tag list. I'll draw March's numbers tomorrow (Wednesday) so there is still time to make a list for this month!! 4mo

I had high hopes for this locked room mystery, but it ended up being pretty average. I sped through the end to find out what happened, but I didn‘t feel very invested in the main character. If I had read this before The Woman in the Window, I think I would have liked it more, but it fell a little flat for me in comparison. Book 3 for #kicktheslump! I met my goal, woohoo!

CoffeeNBooks I love Ruth Ware, but this is my least favorite of her books. 4mo

This ended up being fairly middle of the road. It kept my interest for a while, but towards the end became slightly predictable and ultimately too unbelievable. The final reveal was just not convincing. However, great setting, and the epilogue does make me want to try out the second book when it comes out later this year.

My 7th graders are reading this novel as part of a narrative unit. It‘s definitely not my favorite, but it could be worse. I don‘t usually like adventure/survival novels, so this was very average. Some kids love it, others can‘t wait to be done (and I‘m with them 😂).

KathyWheeler Two of my favorites when I was a kid were My Side of the Mountain and Island of the Blue Dolphins. I probably would have enjoyed this one too. 😊 5mo

I adored this little book. It‘s a little like Holes, with an old family curse that needs to be resolved, but the way the author weaves the story is truly magical. A great story for elementary/middle grade level, but anyone can read and enjoy this one. And, it‘s my #doublespin for January!

kspenmoll I had a student gobble this whole series up- she “did not want to read”, but these books worked like a charm! (edited) 5mo

Very excited for this summer release. I love Natalie Lloyd‘s The Key to Extraordinary. It helped me process (some of) my grief from losing my sister a few years ago. This new book‘s protagonist has OI, the rare bone disease that my late sister had (& the author as well). I already know I‘m going to cry through the whole thing, but it‘ll be worth it. I hope you‘ll check out this author and this book in August.

My review of this month‘s #bookspin book that I can‘t believe I finished 🥳 already. Definitely a book I would have enjoyed more as a kid, if I could have followed all of the characters. Outdated language also took me away from the story. I‘m looking forward to my #doublespin this week! With cover illustrated by my fave Charlie Bowater 🥰

This has been in my classroom for years (and I had inherited this well-worn copy). Finally reading it. I love a good closed room mystery. Not 100% sure if this counts as closed room, but close enough. It‘s okay, a little outdated perhaps. One I‘ve wanted to check off my list for a while though, and it‘s short! 😂

mandarchy I read that recently for some of the same reasons. I have a classroom set in my library and I was debating weeding it. My copies look exactly like yours. Also my boss insisted that I read the Parker Inheritance and it's mentioned a lot in that book. 11mo
cewilf @mandarchy I didn‘t love it. I might take it out of the library now. I think I just ordered the Parker Inheritance actually! 11mo
mandarchy I kept it in case someone wanted to read it with the Parker Inheritance, but my students are not reading the Parker Inheritance. It seems that reading stamina was dropping and with the pandemic it has taken a dive. If someone doesn't borrow the class set from me soon, it's getting weeded. 11mo
