Mehso-so

Ultimately a very uneven collection of stories - when they are good, they are very good but otherwise it was a bit of a slog 😔 THAT COVER THO!!

But since I‘ve discovered some new to me authors - I think it was time well spent. I‘m quite looking forward to reading more from Darcie Little Badger and Tade Thompson.

julesG It's a very marmite collection. 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, not Vegemite 🤣 I‘m glad I resisted my impulse to buy it when I saw it at the bookstore (checked it out as a library ebook instead) 2mo
julesG I need to try vegemite one day to be able to tell you. 🤣 2mo

thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, vegemite has a stronger, saltier flavour (although it‘s been a long time since I‘ve had marmite - my Nana used to occasionally have it when I was a kid). For the uninitiated, we always say - less is more! (And butter is recommended) 2mo
julesG Thanks. I'll try to remember for when I get a jar. 2mo
julesG Oh, just found out that my UK tea dealer has Vegemite in stock. It's going to happen sooner than later 2mo
thegirlwiththelibrarybag I always think it goes quite well with eggs (poached or scrambled) on toast or with avocado… or the classic combination which is a vegemite and cheese sandwich. Tea and Vegemite it an interesting stock combo 🤣 hope you enjoy it! @julesG 2mo

I went to a pet adoption event today and next to Petsmart happened to be a TJMaxx & a BN. Shopping bliss (especially since TJM is already putting out Halloween stuff ?). I stumbled across this short story anthology, including stories from P. Djélí Clark, Garth Nix Tochi Onyebuchi, with illustrations by Alyssa Winans. I also got 3 jigsaw puzzles!

? + ? = ???

julesG I love this edition. Sadly/strangely not available here (yet?). I got the eBook the other day though. 1y
wanderinglynn @julesG it looks like it was just released on 1 Aug. So maybe it hasn‘t been released in the EU yet? 🤷🏼‍♀️ 1y
julesG The eBook and audiobook have just been released here, too. The hardback and paperback (both HarperVoyage) are expected to be published in late October. Different cover, too. I suppose it's the UK edition. https://amzn.eu/d/iunJrLO it doesn't look too shabby either, but I like the purple cover better. 😉 1y

julesG Oh, there's one bookshop that offers the US edition for an insane price. I might have to ask @Susanita to be my US postie and bring it to the Reading Retreat. 🤔 1y
wanderinglynn @julesG interestingly, I was just reading some reviews and one pointed out that Strahan, in the intro, pointed out that it‘s the western culture that puts witches in a black with the pointy hat and that most of these stories are from other cultures, and yet the cover has the western-culture version of the witch. 😆 1y
julesG 😂😂 1y
Susanita @julesG I believe this may be possible. 1y
