"With a love story for the ages, this vivid tale takes the history we know and recasts it into an exciting, technicolor, future world that challenges what we know here in the present, and how we know it. I loved it! I couldn't put it down!" Beth Revis, New York Times bestselling author of the Across the Universe trilogy Decadent, thrilling, and romantic, this Black Mirror-esque retelling of the reign of one Marie Antoinette is perfect for fans of The Belles and American Royals. The year is 3070, and Marie Antoinette has just arrived at the glittering, thrilling palace of Versailles to marry the shy, soft-spoken Louis-Auguste. But beneath the luxurious world lies a sinister underbelly and an uncompromising elite who want to keep Marie and Louis pawns in a deadly game. Will history repeat itself? Or will these doomed lovers outwit their enemies and escape their grisly fate? Cake Eater will take readers to a dazzling world full of breathless luxuries, deadly secrets, and a thrilling romance that attempts to rewrite history itself.

Bailedbailed

I tried so hard, I just finished a European history class and so was feeling ready for a futuristic retelling of the French Revolution featuring Marie Antoinette, but I could not get past the slang. The world is built around social media and honestly in that regard isn‘t too different from ours, but our slang is not based around technology. “He‘s giga mad” and “she‘s just phished right now”are dumb slang words and I just couldn‘t anymore. ⬇️

Zoe-h ⬆️ Also, in a thousand years, that‘s where we‘re at with social media? The exact same place? I think it would have worked better in an AU instead of the future. I did like the emphasis on neon, but this is after a global catastrophe (undescribed) that wiped out half the world and we‘re still using that and absinthe? Really? 6mo

Pickpick

This caught my eye because of the cover. It's Marie Antoinette (and that crowd) in 3070, doomed to repeat history. This is a YA take on Marie Antoinette in the future as a social trend influencer. I actually really recommend this. It gives perspective on her actual life. In terms that modern teens might actually relate to. It's clever.
