“There were just a few weeks left of the deployment. The wives were frustrated and wrung out, and the air had become charged with these emotions.”
Memoir of being an army wife-great writing, authentic characters, unputdownable! Setting is Fort Benning in Georgia in mid 2000s.

I spent 38 years as a Dept of Army civilian. Military wives were part of neighborhoods, my work environment, my friends, (my mother-in-law). I wasn‘t expecting this book to be insightful for me but it was. The whole enlisted vs officer‘s wife thing - boy, I get it. The kids thing - I get it. But my experiences were never with a community of special ops soldiers and their spouses - what they endure is a unique fraternity/sorority of emotion.
In her memoir Simone writes about being a fish out of water in the company of the other wives of the Unit and her reservations about military life but never shies away from portraying the strength, sacrifice, and intense bonds that these women share. I appreciated the raw examination of her feelings, her marriage. and the struggles she faced when her husband was deployed. I found this really compelling.
