The Mindful Way through Depression
The Mindful Way through Depression: Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness | Jon Kabat-Zinn, J. Mark G. Williams, John D. Teasdale, Zindel V. Segal
If youve ever struggled with depression, take heart. Mindfulness, a simple yet powerful way of paying attention to your most difficult emotions and life experiences, can help you break the cycle of chronic unhappiness once and for all. In The Mindful Way through Depression, four uniquely qualified experts explain why our usual attempts to think our way out of a bad mood or just snap out of it lead us deeper into the downward spiral. Through insightful lessons drawn from both Eastern meditative traditions and cognitive therapy, they demonstrate how to sidestep the mental habits that lead to despair, including rumination and self-blame, so you can face lifes challenges with greater resilience. This e-book includes an audio program of guided meditations, narrated by Jon Kabat-Zinn, for purchasers to stream or download from the Web. See also the authors' Mindful Way Workbook, which provides step-by-step guidance for building your mindfulness practice in 8 weeks. Plus, mental health professionals, see also the authors' bestselling therapy guide: Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression, Second Edition. I really don't WANT to give up on October being the start of my favorite time of year, but JFC it never makes it easy. Time to be proactive about this shit.

SkeletonKey @DebbieGrillo - Excellent! It was recommended to me too. I go to a Buddhist sangha sometimes but wanted something more directly related to my needs. 7y
kamoorephoto I went through a major course in DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) and mindfulness was a large part of it, and it honestly changed my life... 7y
kamoorephoto I will always struggle, I will always have major depressive disorder, anxiety and suffer from MS, but this is one thing that can help... 👍🏼 7y
SkeletonKey @kamoorephoto - That's hopeful then! Im glad it's helping you. I'm in the same boat with depression/anxiety/trauma. Is DBT similar to CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy)? That's what I've been working with. 7y
kamoorephoto I would say it‘s considerably different; I was actually part of a research study at the University of WA at a crucial part of my life and I would highly recommend looking into it for anyone with issues with PTSD, BPD, trauma, etc. Life-changing. 7y
SkeletonKey @kamoorephoto - Oh! Thanks, I'll look it up then. 🙂 7y
kamoorephoto 💓💓💓💓👍🏼 7y
SkeletonKey @kamoorephoto - Added to the list!! 💜💜💜 7y
TricksyTails This has been on my TBR forever. I borrowed it from OverDrive but didn't finish it. Reading used to be my escape but after experiencing loss a couple years ago, I can't focus enough to read anymore. It's a real struggle. I've been meaning to borrow this again. I'll be looking forward to your thoughts. I hope it helps. 🤗 7y
TricksyTails This relates to dealing with illness but it also covers mindfulness as a way of coping. It's very relatable and she gives real life experiences as examples and how to use the different practices. All of her books are similar but very helpful. 7y
SkeletonKey @tricksytails - I'm so sorry to hear that! Both about the loss and the reading. Reading is a big escape for me too so it's always a bad sign when it doesn't work. I'll try to share my thoughts as I go. Thanks for the recommendation too 💜 7y
TricksyTails Thank you. ☺️ I truly miss the joy of getting lost in a book. I hope the book helps you. 💜 7y
alvingregorio I have this book but never finished it. I forgot I even had it! Going to start reading it again thanks to your post. 6y

Perhaps an overshare, but I'm really into learning about ways to deal with tough times holistically and naturally rather than pills that make me feel terrible. #labsoundtrack
