Rhythm and Clues: The Record Shop Mysteries | Olivia Blacke
6 posts | 5 read
The rhythm is gonna get you. It’s been five whole months since the last murder in Cedar River, Texas, and Juni Jessup and her sisters Tansy and Maggie have been humming along when disaster strikes again. Their struggling vinyl records shop/coffee nook, Sip & Spin Records, is under pressure from predatory investors, though the Jessup sisters aren’t ready to face the music and admit defeat. But the night after their meeting, the sketchy financier is killed outside their shop during a torrential Texas thunderstorm that washes out all the roads in and out of town. Now the sisters find themselves trapped in Cedar River with a killer, and Juni is determined to solve the case. When the river spits out an unexpected surprise, Detective Beau Russell asks for Juni’s help, never predicting her investigation will spin her into danger. Up until now, the Jessup sisters have been playing it by ear, but with the whole town watching, can they catch a killer before he strikes again?

Juni & her sisters are dealing with a predatory loan company trying to buy into their record shop. Things become more complicated when the primary investor dies in a car accident that may be more nefarious then it seemed.

I love the relationship between the three sisters. I wish we got more of it, & more with their mother. & we finally get a resolution on the love triangle! & the mystery was good, w/ plenty of convincing red herrings!🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Rhythm and Clues features a clever mystery, a cool theme, engaging characters, and a little bit of romance, all set in a small Texas town.

This was a quick cozy mystery read. Juni Jessup owns Sip and Spin, a vinyl record shop/coffe shop with her three sisters. When an aggressive potential investor ends up dead in front of the shop, Juni is determined to solve the mystery. The characters are well written. Plenty of suspects and motives kept me guessing. 📚e-copy provided by NetGalley & St. Martin's Press for review.

Here‘s my reading progress for this book. I‘m 104 pages into this book. I liked the punny drink names in one of the chapters and I like that it‘s set in Texas but I‘m not feeling compelled to continue reading this book all night like I would be if I was really enjoying a book. If I was enjoying it, I would want to read it all night but I‘m not feeling that with this book so I‘m going to DNF it.

I just started this book. This is a Netgalley ARC I‘m reading. I don‘t usually take notes on StoryGraph when I‘m reading but I had to because I like the punny drink names and I wanted to share this. I don‘t use StoryGraph‘s note taking feature enough but it‘s useful if I want to remember something from the book that happened.

ShananigansReads I didn‘t even know they had a notes feature. 9mo
