Four Weekends and a Funeral | Ellie Palmer
4 posts | 6 read | 6 to read
A tender, laugh-out-loud debut romance about a woman who ends up in over her head after a little white lie . . . The right guy at the dead wrong time. When thirty-year-old post-double-mastectomy BRCA 1 carrier and reluctant thrill-seeker Alison Mullally arrives at her ex-boyfriend Sams funeral to find that no one knows he dumped her, she agrees to play the grieving girlfriend for the sake of the family and pack up Sams apartment with his prickly best friend, Adam Berg. After all, itll only take four weekends . . . But Adam doesnt want Alison anywhere near him. Forced to spend long hours with the grump, and his monosyllabic demeanor, Alison decides she must put her people-pleasing abilities to the test. She will make him like her. And after awkward family affairs and packing up dilemmas, the two form a tenuous friendship . . . if friendship means incredible chemistry and tension between them. Can Alison come clean and finally embrace the life and love she's always wanted? Or will her little white lie get in the way of her new, unexpected romance?

Allison is surprised to learn that everyone at her ex-boyfriend‘s funeral doesn‘t know they had broken up. Keeping the secret she helps his family and best friend clean out his apartment. For a romance it also had a heavier tone due to Allison‘s health. 3.5 🌟

Librarybelle This is my pick to read for the prompt…hope I can get to it by the end of the year! 7h

This was…fine. I liked the idea of it, but the miscommunication was a bit annoying. 3⭐️

This was great! A romance, sure, but one that explores grief and survivors guilt in a thoughtful way.

It‘s a pick - loved the Minnesota setting, the back stories of Alison and Adam, and even how the story played out. …But I‘m panning the title. The funeral happens at the onset of the story. The 4 weekends were not distinct enough to warrant the connection to the movie.
