There's a lot going on in 'City of Secrets '. Tracy ties it all up nicely. I was intrigued from the beginning. Maggie and Remy's relationship development is notched up a bit. Sam continues to battle demons but may have a new job on the horizon. His relationship with Melidy takes a step forward. Tracy is developing all the characters, not just the main ones, that gives great depth to the book.

I usually can‘t stand starting a series mid-stream, since I always feel like I‘m missing something or an earlier plot gets spoiled, but I gambled on this police procedural and never got that feeling! With a short time frame, the book opens with the CEO of a pet food company‘s murder. With multiple perspectives, multiple crimes, this makes for a quick and entertaining read! I loved the little nod to Tracy‘s earlier Monkeewrench series, too!

Fourth in the Detective Margaret Nolan series, this one finds Maggie investigating the death of a wealthy businessman found in his car in a seedy part of LA. With basically nothing to go on, the strange kidnapping of his former business partner and his wife add to the perplexing mix. As Maggie and cohorts begin their deep dive into backgrounds and motivations, they discover addiction, drug cartel involvement and just plain greed. But who 🔻

robinb actually pulled the trigger and for what reason? And how does the ex-business partner and his wife fit into the puzzle?
Meanwhile, Sam Easton, a soldier home from Afghanistan who has suffered from PTSD, begins to take back his life as he decides to join the SWAT team.
And on the personal front, both Maggie and Sam move forward in major ways with their significant others and lead the reader to wonder, where do they go from here? I'm enjoying 🔻

robinb this series more and more as it goes along. It sometimes gets a bit distracting having both Maggie AND Sam as seemingly main leads (when they're not together the majority of the time and linked only by the beginning of a friendship), but I'm adjusting to that and am interested to see where the author goes with these characters. The plotlines are entertaining, the characters funny and dedicated. 4.25/5⭐️ 1mo
