Songlight
Songlight | Moira Buffini
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
Star-crossed lovers, against-all-odds friendship, and a brutally unforgiving world make this first in a trilogy utterly unforgettable. Were two songs joined. And theres a word for that. A harmony. Elsa is used to hiding the most important parts of herselfher feelings for Rye, her distaste for a world ruled by men, and, most crucially, her gift of songlight. She buries that secret deep inside. In Brightland, those with songlight are called Unhumans and are abhorred. Rye is the only other person Elsa has known with songlight, and their shared bond has brought them together. Elsas world begins to fall apart one desperate, heart-wrenching day and she doesnt know where to turn until a girl appears before her. But the girl isnt really thereher songlight has been drawn to Elsas frantic grief. Elsa lives in a remote seaside village; Nightingale, her new friend, lives in a city hundreds of miles away with her father, a government official responsible for rooting out Unhumans. The two never expected to connect via songlight. But when they do, and when they realize the extent of their power, theyll be thrust in the middle of a war that threatens their very existence. From an award-winning screenwriter making her novel debut comes this powerful, page-turning trilogy perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir and Adrienne Young.

#TuesdayTunes @TieDyeDude
I know I've fallen off of the TuesdayTunes posts lately, but after checking out my most played songs, I found a few recommendations from these posts pop up (The War on Drugs, Gina Chavez). The results are always a little weird for me since I listen to albums and self-made playlists more than specific songs. So over 40,000 minutes, but my most-played song only had 8 plays (Aphex Twin, boosted by a Halloween playlist 😅)

TheBookHippie EN VOGUE!!!! That‘s my fav song they sing!!!!! Memories!!! 1w
monalyisha @TheBookHippie My friends & I totally used to make up dances to En Vogue! Then again, we also made up a dance to Sublime‘s “Caress Me Down” when we were about 12-years-old. It‘s possible we may not have fully understood the lyrics we were dancing to…🙈😂 1w
TheBookHippie @monalyisha HA. I‘m a weeee bit older 🤣😂 I danced to En Vogue in the clubs AFTER college 😂😅. 1w

monalyisha @TheBookHippie It‘s not your age. It‘s the dance moves in your heart, the canned heat in your heels, etc etc. 😜💃 1w
TheBookHippie @monalyisha I dance regularly to the horror of my children. My grandson dances with me. 😂😅 1w
Billypar @TheBookHippie @monalyisha I missed the En Vogue train: I was 10 and still listened to my parents' music then. The closest thing was the music my sister played when she took dance classes. But now I'm constantly looking for soul and R&B that I missed from decades past! 1w
TheBookHippie @Billypar ohhhh FUN!!! 1w
monalyisha @Billypar Oh, I definitely listened to En Vogue because it *was* my mother‘s music! She had me pretty young (at 19). I was 6 when Funky Divas came out, which means that my Mom was 25. It still floors me to do math like that! 1w
Billypar @monalyisha That's really cool! My dad was mostly a rock guy, so there was good stuff, just not a lot of variety. He also listened to Sinatra, which was his parents' music, but my sister and I weren't as happy with those selections 😄 7d
monalyisha @Billypar I totally missed out on other genres. I hadn‘t even heard of Bob Dylan until my best friend in high school introduced me in 9th grade! A person‘s musical evolution is so interesting. Thanks for sharing with me! 7d
BarbaraBB Aphex Twin! I used to listen to them a lot. So fun! 7d
TieDyeDude I know a lot of my top songs are just because my Spotify-generated playlists get stuck in ruts. I recently found my iPod classic with the click wheel. I want to make more self-generated playlists based on what I have on there. 6d
Billypar @monalyisha Totally agree, and likewise! 6d
Billypar @BarbaraBB Yeah, they were another one I missed in the 90s, but I have a weird obsession with the half of his Drukqs album that sounds like it uses classical instruments and organic sounds even though it's all still electronic. Not like anything else I've heard! 6d
Billypar @TieDyeDude Yeah, agreed about the Spotify lists. That's fun that you found your old device! I don't have a working one, but I still keep the iTunes library on my computer somewhat up to date. I never got into the habit of tracking favorite albums in Spotify as opposed to songs, so I still really like it for that reason. 6d

Pickpick

If dystopian novels are your thing then this is for you. Set in a future world after the last was almost brought to extinction by the Light People (that‘s us) the world is once again at war. Some live with the power of Songlight, a power once used for political gain is now an aberration. Elsa lives in fear of being discovered until a dreadful loss shows her others she can commune with. So begins what can only be described as an unputdownable read.
