Praise for the Aime Leduc series: The buzz . . . is partly about her heroines hip, next-generation, cutting-edge investigations and partly about Paris, a setting of unrivaled charm.Houston Chronicle If the cobblestones could talk, they might tell a tale as haunting as the one Cara Black spins. The New York Times Book Review Will have readers on pins and needles.San Francisco Chronicle One of the best new writers in the field today.Publishers Weekly (starred review) Conveys vividly those layers of history that make the stones of Paris sing for so many of us.Chicago Tribune With its sights, sounds, and colorful past, its a particularly eventful and involving Paris visit.Los Angeles Times Spirited Aime Leduc, a private investigator based in Paris, has been introduced to the Cao Dai temple by her partner, Ren, who urges her to learn to meditate as a counterbalance to her frenetic lifestyle. A Vietnamese nun asks her for a favorto hand over a check and bring a package back to the temple. But this act of kindness ends in a strangers death and leaves her with a bullet wound in the arm, a check for 50,000 francs and a trove of ancient jade artifacts whose provenance is a mystery. The French secret service, a group of veterans of the war in Indochina, some wealthy ex-colonials, and contending international oil companies all claim the jade. They will stop at nothing to gain possession of it. And the nun has disappeared. Aime has promised to avoid danger, but it continues to seek her out.For more information, visit www.carablack.com

*I started out loving this one. It seemed interesting as regards Aimée‘s personal life, propulsive as regards the storyline, and nice and twisty as regards the kidnapping of René. But towards the end, I had to bring up my auto-recall function—too many minor characters with sporadic appearances—I couldn‘t remember all of them; and suspend my disbelief—did she really climb up a trestle with a man with a prosthetic leg—I think Black ⬇️

gradcat ⬆️ (Cont.) asked too much of her readers in this one, the fifth of the Aimée LeDuc Investigations series. ♥️ 4y

Crazeedi @gradcat not particularly, this series just isnt hitting my sweet spot for some reason @EadieB @Andrew65 4y
gradcat @Crazeedi Sorry you‘re not enjoying it. Too many books & too little time, I always say. Maybe you want to stop reading them? ♥️ 4y
Crazeedi @gradcat we will see! Depends on the beginning of the year how many reads I'm signed up for. I'll finish and read the next one for sure!! 4y

Mehso-so

Not one of my favourite ones in this series, but still did enjoy this book. I don‘t think these work that well as audiobooks but unfortunately that is all I can access locally. I‘m enjoying these group, reads with @Tove_Reads @EadieB @gradcat @Crazeedi but would never make my favourites list. And so onto the next one.

Crazeedi I'm halfway through, have to finish since it's a borrowed book, hopefully today or tomorrow!! 4y
Andrew65 @Crazeedi Good luck. 4y
EadieB @Andrew65 I think people who like these books like the atmosphere of Paris. The characters do grow on you but something seems missing in these books. (edited) 4y

Andrew65 @EadieB I think I would have to agree. Disappointing as loved the first one. (edited) 4y
gradcat @Crazeedi @EadieB @Andrew65 I‘m just about ready to review, but I have enjoyed this one. (Full disclosure: I lived in Paris for 18 months, and was a frequent traveler there until my special friend died this year. So I think Eadie is right—these books bring back delightful memories for me.) Good review, Andrew! ♥️ 4y
Andrew65 @gradcat Thanks 🥰 What a great experience! 4y
gradcat @Andrew65 Probably the best experience of my life. 🙂 4y
Andrew65 @gradcat I can well imagine. 😊 4y

Pickpick

Linh, a nun, asks Aimee to go Clichy to exchange envelope for a package. Recipient Barat is shot and dies in Aimee's arms. The RG - French secret service; group of veterans of war in Indochina, some wealthy ex-colonials and international corporations are implicated. Aimee promised to avoid danger but it finds her. I find Black's books to be easy reading & atmospheric. Paris is definitely a character in her books. Looking forward to next book.

Crazeedi Hi Eadie! You got home safe and sound? I'm halfway through this one. Need to get finished!! 4y

EadieB @Crazeedi Yes home safe and sound! 4y
gradcat Good review, Eadie! Glad you‘re home AND that you‘re feeling okay! ♥️ 4y
EadieB @gradcat Thanks! Still coughing but not as bad as before trip. Still annoying though. How are you feeling? 4y
gradcat @EadieB Hi Eadie! It‘s nice to catch up with you today. I‘m lots better, thank you for asking. Finally made it into the shower—ugh! I felt so gross—so feeling lots better! Maybe you have to sip on some honey bourbon for that cough. That‘s what I do...not for the flu, of course, but nagging cough sends me straight to the bourbon! Egads!! ♥️ 4y
EadieB @gradcat Don't like bourbon but I have cough drops that have honey and lemon in them and they do help. 4y
gradcat @EadieB Good enough—they should work, I hope! ♥️ 4y

Started book 5 in the Aimee Leduc series whilst driving too and from school. These seem hard to get hold of in the UK so having to do them by audiobook, the libraries don‘t have them. I am reading this with @gradcat @Crazeedi @EadieB and @Tove_Reads

Others welcome to join us. 😊
