I'm apprehensive. I don't know LibraryThing & having close to 2000 books shelved on Goodreads, I'm not sure about switching or adding another platform. Having been on both the acquiring & being acquired sides of many businesses, I'm leery of "we won't change the things that make this place special" assurances-but hopefully there are true Litsy lovers on LibraryThing's staff & they & @TimSpalding will add better tech, but keep Litsy's spirit??

BethM My sentiments exactly. 7y
callielafleur This was how I felt when Goodreads was bought by Amazon, but it really hasn't changed things over there much, for better or for worse. 7y
jfalkens I'm worried Litsy will lose the special happy place it is. Where everyone is nice even if someone posts something someone else doesn't agree with they just keep scrolling and if your having a bad day people write kind words, post pics if their pets, etc to cheer you up 7y

FantasyChick As long as it stays the same for the most part, I'm good. I would be interested in a larger book database but we will see. I haven't been on LTin years so maybe I'll have to take a peek though I know I won't be moving my GR library and time soon....I just got it the way I wanted....after 7ish years 7y
DebinHawaii @callielafleur Really good point--although for me Goodreads, at least the way I use it, has never been the special, social place or refuge that I find Litsy so this one scares me more. 😬 7y
SharonGoforth I‘ve been a member of LibraryThing since 2005. They‘re great for book data (and I still keep track of my books there) but not so much on the social side. Not sure how this will flow with Litsy, but I‘m hopeful they‘ll do right by us. 7y
Booksnchill Cautiously curious here 7y
Andrew65 @callielafleur I‘m a bit more worried as Amazon bought out a great website in Shelfari and killed it off in favour of Goodreads, I have an account but don‘t really use it. On a positive front I have been a member of Librarything since Shelfari and Leafmarks were killed off and run a couple of Grouos over there. They are not as active as I would like them to be - Part of the reason I use Litsy. Tim Spalding though has been true to his word and 👇 (edited) 7y
Andrew65 Not sold out. He is a real book enthusiast and let‘s be honest Apps are more the future than websites IMHO. So hopefully this will be positive news and ensures Litsy doesn‘t die for lack of funding. Come on Tim, in you we trust! 7y
callielafleur @Andrew65 I totally agree with you on the app vs website side. Hopefully this is a bigger impact on LT (for the better) than Litsy 7y
Andrew65 Fingers crossed! @callielafleur 7y
ephemeralwaltz Yes, I hope Litsy's organic, intimate feeling doesn't change. I feel so directly connected with so many of you! Instagram can't even compare. I'm happy with my GR as well and I'm not interested in using +1 platform.. I hope that doesn't become an issue in the future. 7y
ReadingSusan Hoping this will be good move as far as Litsy never going away. But I want the jerks to stay away 😁 7y
melbeautyandbooks @DebinHawaii YES! I feel the same way. We need to maintain the supportive and welcoming community that is the heart of Litsy. 7y
Leftcoastzen I want Litsy to stay nice. I have never used LibraryThing because there is a 200 book list limit unless you pay for upgraded account, stayed with Goodreads for that reason.I‘m cheap, I want to keep my money for books. 7y
DebinHawaii @Leftcoastzen it sounds like from something @TimSpalding said that they will offer free accounts to Litsy members but I have trouble keeping up with my Goodreads shelving so I don't know that I'd switch even with a free account. I'm lazy! 😆 7y
DebinHawaii @ReadingSusan Yes! No jerks please! 😆👍 7y
DebinHawaii @ephemeralwaltz I agree completely! 💜 7y
DebinHawaii @Booksnchill "Cautiously curious" is a great way to approach it! ? 7y
DebinHawaii @Andrew65 @callielafleur Yes, fingers crossed it will be a positive thing overall for book groups. 🤞🏻 7y
DebinHawaii @BethM 👍💜 7y
DebinHawaii @jfalkens Hopefully we can work to keep it that way! 💜 7y
DebinHawaii @FantasyChick Yes, I'm hoping they can clean up and improve the database! 👍👍 7y
Andrew65 @DebinHawaii I have seen a post where @TimSpalding has said he would offer free accounts to anyone from Litsy and has promised no adverts, and no non chronological timelines. (edited) 7y
DebinHawaii @SharonGoforth Good to hear the positives of LibraryThing. Hoping they can help improve the data here. 👍 7y
DebinHawaii @Andrew65 Yes I saw that although I think he said limited advertising after that 😆but those are good things! 7y
Andrew65 @DebinHawaii Missed That, Although don‘t think I‘ve ever noticed advertising on Librarything. 7y
DebinHawaii @Andrew65 It was on Facebook and i looked again & it was very limited ads-he said 'no ads but not zero ads' or something like that, saying they would continue to occasionally post Out of Print... 7y
Karkar I do not think I can do ads. I hate them on Goodreads, Instagram, and Facebook 7y
DebinHawaii @Karkar it does sound like they would be very limited. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏻 (edited) 7y
rwmg I've been on LT for 12+ years as Robertgreaves and I honestly don't remember having seen any ads 7y
DebinHawaii @rwmg That's good to hear!👍 7y
samy20002000fr Everything should be OK, Tim spalding is a nice guy 7y
