The privileged members of the Knickerbocker Club can never climb too high up the social ladder. But for one charming New York bachelor, does the ascent take precedence over love in the Gilded Age? As owner of a well-respected national newspaper, Calvin Cabot has the means to indulge his capricious taste for excess—and the power to bring the upper crust of society to its knees. So when a desperate heiress from his past begs for his help, Calvin agrees . . . as long as she promises to stay out of his way. Except, like the newsman, this willful beauty always gets what she wants . . . Lillian Davies lives a life brimming with boundless parties, impressive yachts, and exotic getaways. But when her brother disappears, Lily knows that blood runs thicker than champagne and she’ll spare nothing to bring him back alive. Unfortunately, the only man who can help her is the one she never wanted to see again. Can Lily keep Calvin at arm’s length long enough to save her brother and protect her name . . . even when the tenacious powerbroker turns out to be absolutely irresistible? Raves for Magnate “Original and captivating.”—Publishers Weekly “Intense, poignant, and powerfully written.” —RT Book Reviews “Engaging . . . opulent.” —Library Journal

Newspaper publisher teams up with his ex-wife when a mutual enemy threatens to reveal their secret marriage. Set in upper class, gilded age NYC and Chinatown, the romance is frustratingly full of poor communication but I still enjoyed it. Hero and heroine are white with supporting characters who are African-American and Chinese, which is unusual in a lot of historical romances.

Props to the author for the gilded age setting, brought to life with historical details not usually included in romance. I wanted to love it. But instead of romantic tension and/or discovery, we get angst created by the heroine‘s father who decides they have to ‘work for it,‘ to be a couple. No thanks.

I loved this whole series and I‘m sad it‘s over. Historical romance in this time period is great. This book - finally Calvin - was fun and introduced a whole new side of New York. #romantsy #historicalromance #romance

Another really good story from the author. Her attention to historical periods is great. What I really like is how it is not the usual periods of history so the stories are new and fresh.

Fun, sexy, and interesting story. I liked how the story revolved around The Chinese Exclusion Act which resonates so much with current events. The book also included a nice little novella called Tycoon and that was a plus. The picture denotes a few changes that happened at the time the story takes place.

Another late night finishing a book and starting a new one. Now reading an ARC of the third book in the wonderful Knickerbocker Club series. Calvin Cabot has intrigued me the most of the characters in this series, so I'm excited for this book. #currentlyreading #romantsy #historicalromance
