Set in upper class, gilded age NYC and Chinatown, the romance is frustratingly full of poor communication but I still enjoyed it. Hero and heroine are white with supporting characters who are African-American and Chinese, which is unusual in a lot of historical romances.
bailedProps to the author for the gilded age setting, brought to life with historical details not usually included in romance. I wanted to love it. But instead of romantic tension and/or discovery, we get angst created by the heroine‘s father who decides they have to ‘work for it,‘ to be a couple. No thanks.

pickAnother really good story from the author. Her attention to historical periods is great. What I really like is how it is not the usual periods of history so the stories are new and fresh.
pickFun, sexy, and interesting story. I liked how the story revolved around The Chinese Exclusion Act which resonates so much with current events. The book also included a nice little novella called Tycoon and that was a plus. The picture denotes a few changes that happened at the time the story takes place.
