Party of Liars
Party of Liars: a gripping new debut psychological thriller with a gothic edge from an exciting new voice in fiction | Kelsey Cox
11 posts | 8 read | 1 reading | 8 to read
An exclusive black-tie birthday party. A sprawling mansion with a dark past. A body falling from a cliffside balcony onto the starlit outdoor dance floor. One of the guests is dead, and another is a killer - but who is the hunter and who is the prey? When social status is everything, and there is no price too high for adoration, there is no shortage of suspects: Was it Dani, the tenacious new mother with a history of postpartum psychosis, or Kim, the ex-wife with an alcohol problem? Orlaith, the elderly Irish nanny who talks to spirits? Mikayla, the lonely teenager, or the clique of toxic mean girls who pretend to embrace her? Or was it the pair of psychotherapists who watch and judge them all? And whose body is hurtling towards the sea?

Mehso-so

This is a perfectly fine but not exceptional thriller until something happens which hasn‘t been developed at all and it was just impossible for me to buy. Unfortunately, it‘s the hinge for the rest of the book, so it‘s a meh for me. I did like the ending, though.

Loved this debut thriller! Short chapters and shifting perspective keep you wanting to read “just one more chapter“ deep into the night.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

With short chapters, changing perspectives, and an opulent, ominous atmosphere, this is hard to put down! It has all the fun of a pacy, twisty thriller with nuanced characters and observations on motherhood and mental heath. I think fans of “The Guest List” and “Big Little Lies” will really enjoy this! #Aardvark #AardvarkBookClub

What a fun debut novel! Had life not intervened, this would‘ve been a #SingleSittingRead for sure! Sophie‘s Sweet Sixteen party in a small TX town is memorable for everyone involved. With multiple narrators-Sophia‘s stepmother, Dani, her mother, Kim & BFF Mikayla & Orlaith, her half-sister‘s nanny—the party & its aftermath makes for a riveting read with fast pacing, plenty of lies, secrets & a sinister dollhouse like home. Lots of drama & tension!

EmberIvyRose I just started this one. Pretty good so far! 1mo

4⭐
While the story suffers from too many character switches that make it difficult to keep track of everyone, the mystery had me hooked. There's a lot to figure out—not just who did it, but who gets killed and why the author chose these particular POVs. It's an intriguing mix of perspectives. If you're concerned this might feel too YA because it centers on a 16-year-old's birthday party, that's not that much of an issue.⬇️⬇️⬇️

AudiobookingWithLeah ⬆️⬆️⬆️The narration was great since I do love multiple narrators, but the pace varied significantly between the different narrators. 1mo

'Party of Liars' has a different structure than most who-done-it mystery thrillers. You know from the beginning that someone has died. However, you don't know who until around 90% in. There are so many secrets and twists within the book, it could be any of the 5 characters narrating the book, or someone else entirely. Shorter chapters rachet up the tension. A dual timeline before and after the party both foreshadows and gives background. 5 stars.

A lavish, killer party…one you would kill to get invited to.

What happens once the candles get blown out?

Someone falls to their death.

Psychological thriller fans will not want to miss this one!!

I enjoyed this evasive, tense read.  And the ending - wow!! 5/5

Thank you to the publisher for a copy of the book.  All opinions are my own.

JULY 1.

A lot of unlikeable characters in this pull-you-in who-done-it with malice and jealousy that eeks through almost every character.
