Project: How Project 2025 Is Reshaping America
Project: How Project 2025 Is Reshaping America | David A Graham
5 posts | 2 read | 4 to read
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - An urgent, topic-by-topic guide to Project 2025, with everything you need to know about how the second Trump administration is remaking America--from a go-to authority at The Atlantic When President Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025, news spread about his implementation of Project 2025, a nearly 1,000-page document published by the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation. The debates--and anxiety--surrounding this initiative have only increased as authors of the Project assume positions of power in the second Trump administration. So, what is Project 2025, exactly? Who wrote it, and what does it mean for everyday Americans, across the political spectrum, now and in the years to come? In The Project, award-winning journalist David A. Graham offers much-needed context and distills the essential elements of this sprawling document. Breaking down the Project's strategy for transforming--and radically empowering--the executive branch, Graham then explains what the architects behind Project 2025 are doing with that power: enforcing traditional gender norms, decimating the civil service, performing mass deportations, reducing corporate regulation and worker protections, and more. Project 2025 is the intellectual blueprint for the new administration, Graham argues, and its tenets should not be legible only to policy wonks. Authoritative yet highly accessible, The Project demystifies it for those whose lives it will affect most.

😡I like @DogMomIrene have a “Prevent Democracy Dying “shelf where it will have a space.I too struggled with online version Mandate for leadership (992 pages).Reading this distilled version clarified so many things that we see happening everyday.
Bullet points from back cover.Enforcing traditional gender norms.😡decimating civil service 🤬performing mass deportations 😡reducing corp. regulation & worker protections 😡 An important read.

EKonrad Don‘t know if I have the stomach to actually read this. 😩 6d
Leftcoastzen @EKonrad oh I get it . Thankfully 130 ish pages 6d

sarahbarnes Yes, this agenda is keeping me very busy at work these days. 😡 6d
DogMomIrene The 130 pages really helped me prioritize this one. I kept skimming the actual Mandate document because so much is their backwards “rationale” for just stripping constitutional right after right from people! It was exhausting filtering their BS. 3d
Leftcoastzen @DogMomIrene you sum it up nicely. I‘d dip in and out of that mess , glad Graham did the dirty work & wrote this book!😄 3d

At 138 pages, this overview of Project 2025 is the Cliffs Notes bare bones version. If you‘re like me and tried to read The Mandate for Leadership‘s 992 pages of policy poop and gave up because the language made you want to 🤮 repeatedly, then this book for you. Freaking public service on the part of Graham, one of those investigative journalists at the “failing” Atlantic.

Aims42 “Policy poop” had me laughing out loud! I become a proud subscriber of the ‘failing Atlantic‘ this year and I just love how much that irks old Cheeto Prez 😂 1w
BarbaraBB It‘s so creepy 1w
DogMomIrene @Aims42 I do love some alliteration🤷🏻‍♀️😂 And anything that irks the Cheeto is a positive! 🙌🏼 3d
DogMomIrene @BarbaraBB Yes, and it‘s all creepy with these MAGATS. I was listening to a NYT podcast on the aesthetic of the MAGA women from make up to wardrobe and it was sickening, especially how intentional their “trad wife” and consumerism vibes go. 3d
BarbaraBB Really? And why? I can‘t get my head around it, how (especially) women want this. 3d

Part 2 gives subsections on all of the above issues. Graham focuses on reporting what Project 2025 says it will do, but he blends in interviews and other sources to give even more context about how long a certain play has been in the works or to show disagreement among the policy makers or to clarify what the BS happy talk language really means.

Part 1 “The Ways and Means” is 29 pages. Gives historical context for policy blueprints like Project 2025, and some background on key authors. Then it details how the executive branch can grab power through multiple methods.

AmyG A horror book. 1w
