New York Times bestselling author Julie Soto crafts a lush and dark romantic fantasy that's filled with intrigue, magic, and an irresistible enemies-to-lovers romance. The war is over, the dark forces have won, and the hero who was supposed to save them is dead. Captured as her castle is overrun by the enemy, the world as Briony Rosewood knows it is changed forever. Evil has won, and her people face imminent servitude, imprisonment, or death. Stripped of her Magic and her freedom, Briony and the other survivors are quickly sold off to the highest bidders in an auction--and as Evermore's princess, she fetches the highest price. After a fierce bidding war, she's sold to none other than Toven Hearst, scion of a family known for their cruelty. Yet despite the horrors of her new world and the role she must learn to play within it, all is not lost. Help--and hope--may yet arise in the most unlikely of places...

This first book in a fantasy trilogy is not without its flaws—solid, not great writing, a predictable storyline with familiar characters, an over reliance on various types violence—and yet I was entertained and will undoubtedly continue with the series. Sometimes you just want to escape into another world, even one filled with danger, betrayal, secrets, and death. This one worked for my brain right now. A fast, fun read.

I haven't seen anything on Litsy about the controversy surrounding these books so I wanted to post something. The 3 books above (Rose in Chains, The Irresistible urge to fall for your enemy, and Alchemised) all originated as HP fan fiction and are/will be trad pub. The trans community has been very clear that this is harmful to them. We all know that JKR is anti-trans and uses her evil money to harm the trans community. ⬇️

Catsandbooks When HP material is promoted in any way it continues to drive support to JKR. These books are being promoted as HP fan fiction and therefore supporting Moldemort's IP. She is also known to be litigious when it comes to her IP, so there's no way that she would allow this promotion without signing off on it. Please listen to trans people when they say something is harmful to them! 2mo
Catsandbooks Unfortunately I already ordered subscription boxes containing these books before I knew they were harmful. When I get them I will be selling them and donating the money to the Trans Youth Emergency Project hosted by the Campaign for Southern Equality. https://southernequality.org/tyep/ 2mo
5feet.of.fury 💜 great post! I will be avoiding those books also. 2mo

seibelsays Dang, 2 of those books were on my wishlist. Thanks for spreading awareness! 2mo
lil1inblue Thank you for raising awareness. I was unaware of this story! 💓 2mo
BookBr I didn‘t read about this until after I read Rose in Chains and it‘s so disappointing. Selling the books and donating the money to trans support is such a good idea and I will be following suit. (edited) 2mo

A very fun read! Are this story‘s fanfiction roots obvious? Definitely, but that doesn‘t stop it from being a great story. Rippling with narrative tension, fast-paced, and engagingly written, I really enjoyed this dark fantasy. And it is dark, particularly for women, so you know, don‘t go in if you‘re sensitive. Briony is a good storyteller, although I‘m not sure how reliable a narrator, and the book ends on a very satisfying reveal. Excellent!

Listened/read in one night. That does not happen too often so when I say I was pulled in I honestly mean I could not put this down. World building, slow burn, tension it was all there. I NEED the next book now. The audiobook narrator was great. It was not always an easy book as the characters really go through some trauma but just know that #juliesoto does and will do justice to these characters. #audiobook #romantasy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
