Maya Angelou: A Writer's Journal
Maya Angelou: A Writer's Journal | Maya Angelou
7 posts | 4 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
For the first time ever, fans of Maya Angelou have creative space to write their own masterpieces alongside quotes from the phenomenal poet, memoirist, activist, and actor in this elegant and evocative journal. Building on the rich legacy of Maya Angelou’s publishing catalog, this blank journal—sprinkled with her signature wit and wisdom throughout—offers readers and fans new ways to celebrate one of America’s literary heroes and enjoy her words of wisdom, inspiration, encouragement, and empowerment. This gorgeous writing notebook includes some of Dr. Angelou's most powerful statements, including, “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.” And readers will be prompted along their own journeys with affirmations from her most famous poems, like, “I am a woman phenomenally; phenomenal woman—that’s me.” Whether you’re finally starting that book you’ve been meaning to write, taking notes at church, capturing key information while on the go, or just meditating with your pen line by line, wherever you open these pages, Dr. Angelou will be with you and encouraging you to continue.

“I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide, welling and swelling I bear the tide.“ This is a great quote of Angelou discussing her identity.

I would use this book to teach poetry and important themes of life.

#Gratitude30 Day 28: This book explores the life of Maya Angelou, her literary influences, and the stories that shaped the woman that she is. Woman #Work seemed fitting for today‘s prompt. Don‘t you feel this way at times? Stretched to the point of infinity, the chores never-ending? Yet despite the predominantly hurried tone of the poem, I found peace in the sunshine, the rain, and the moon glow. My feature: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7qm

For my daughter's 8th birthday she asked for books of poetry and books about art. I found this Poetry For Young People series. I picked Maya Angelou for her first one. There are beautiful illustrations through out the book. Also, each poem has a small description of what it is about and there are definitions at the bottom of the page for more complicated words. I plan on getting the rest in the series.

SamHeartCoffee Super awesome that she asked for books for her birthday! 7y

I'd call a place
pure paradise
where families are loyal
and strangers are nice,
where the music is jazz
and the season is fall.
Promise me that
or nothing at all.
