Mooncakes
Mooncakes | Loretta Seto
8 posts | 2 read | 3 to read
Mooncakes is the lyrical story of a young girl who shares the special celebration of the Chinese Moon Festival with her parents. As they eat mooncakes, drink tea and watch the night sky together, Mama and Baba tell ancient tales of a magical tree that can never be cut down, the Jade Rabbit who came to live on the moon and one brave woman's journey to eternal life. With a gentle focus on the importance of family, Mooncakes is a perfect book for parent and child to read together, while its educational aspect makes it ideal for school libraries that wish to provide an insight into a unique cultural holiday.

This book is filled with stories that parents tell at the time of Chinese Moon Festival. The stories were nice but there wasn‘t enough of an explanation of what the festival is about, or enough in the stories the parents are telling the child, to give those who don‘t celebrate the Moon Festival and understanding of what it is about.

“I look for Chang-E and the Jade Palace on the moon, but I don‘t see them. Maybe they are on the other side,”

This book is cool because it is multicultural and gives children new views on the Chinese culture in a positive, creative way.

Mooncakes is a modern fantasy book written by Loretta Seto and illustrated by Renné Benoit. It is fantasy because it is about a woman who lives on the moon. It also is a Chinese folktale that connects with other common fables.

So... who else saw the Blood Moon 🌚 on Friday? I meet with friends at our small port and we drank wine and watched the sky. It was nice.
Exam time is almost done and after that I will finally have time to read, post and write again! At the moment I‘m 12 books behind on my Goodreads challenge, so I definitely have something to do!

Mooncakes is a traditional literature picture book written by Loretta Seto and illustrated by Rene Benoit. This is a story about a girl who explains her families traditions in present text. A DR would best fit this book because I️t would allow the students to reenact the traditions taking place. UDL: 1.2 Offer alternatives for visual information. Today, the Mid-Autumn festival, widely celebrated in east Asian countries, is held on the 15th day of the 8th mth of the lunar calendar with full moon at night. (Corresponding to late Sept to early Oct of the Gregorian calendar). Traditionally, it's to give thanks for the harvest, or for harmonious unions. Mooncake is a delicacy associated with this festival and reading this book to your kids is a perfect way to introduce the culture to them. 🌕🏮

Dragon Love mooncakes! A local restaurant makes them for individual sale. I think lotus filling was my favourite 😀 8y
erzascarletbookgasm @Dragon they come in a variety of fillings nowadays - green tea, red bean paste, even chocolate! But lotus is my favourite filling too! 8y
