Ugly Love: A Novel | Colleen Hoover
post image
Panpan

It‘s so so bad.
The main character is a boring doormat and I couldn‘t tell you more than 3 things about her.
The love interest really needs therapy.
The brother was a toxic & overprotected mess.
There was some homophobia sprinkled in too.
Considering the characters are in their twenties in the US, they shouldn‘t be able to afford all these apartments in SF. Also, why is abortion never an option?

I asked the bookstore today on any updates on the books I pre-ordered, How High We Go In The Dark and Reminders of Him. Both of them were released on Tuesday. I told them to ship it to my parents house because I‘m staying there over the weekend. They told me it could take weeks 😩. Shipment is really bad here because of COVID and also paper shortage.

All the Young Dudes is my first #HarryPotter fanfiction. It is very, very long, and around 50% I just wanted to be done with it. I didn‘t really like the characterization of Remus, and I thought the end could have been a lot more emotional (or maybe I‘m just coldhearted 😅). Nevertheless, the author worked a lot on this and I appreciate all fanfiction writers.

It Ends With Us | Colleen Hoover

CoHo really redeemed herself with this one! It Ends with Us has its silly lines (especially one which was… so embarrassingly American I laughed out loud), but it also get quite emotional and deep. I liked that the characters start at my age, although they are rich.
I read this book in three hours and was entertained throughout.
What #ColleenHoover book should I read next?

I got book mail today! Unsettled Ground just won the Costa Book Award, and the cover looks cool. It Ends With Us is all over #BookTok and after a friend recommended it to me and told me that it‘s a lot more serious than it looks, decided to try it. Ages ago I read a YA book by Hoover and I absolutely despised it, so finger-crossed for this 🤞📚.

No spoilers!!

I really liked the adaptation of #AnxiousPeople on Netflix. It was quite faithful to the novel, extended a few character arcs while also simplifying the story and leaving out beloved details. Nevertheless, it‘s definitely worth it, I just recommend reading the book first!

My #LastBookOf2021 will be Anxious People. It fits the mood perfectly.

I couldn‘t take a better picture because the shop was quite crowded. They had a couple of tables and seats outside, so it must be wonderful in the summer to just buy a book and enjoy a bagel 🥯. I bought The Animals in that country by Laura Jean McKay, which won the Arthur C. Clarke Award this year. I haven‘t heard of this book yet, but it sounds cool!

Graywacke Sure. It‘s fun and covers a swath of cultural ground. And you will see through the religious stuff without much agony. (It was a small annoyance to me. Might help knowing kids don‘t even recognize religion as an aspect.) Of course there‘s also (and always) better stuff to read, so depends in what else you have in mind. 1mo

The Guardian has an interesting article about books people read during the different lockdowns. I found some of my reads! It‘s fascinating that at the beginning of this whole pandemic, people were determined to read long & more complicated ‚classics‘, but soon many switched over to comfort reads, like Sally Rooney of cookbooks.

#reading #article

ravenlee I remember seeing a lot of people talking about learning instruments and languages, reading classics, and similar projects - and claiming that if you couldn‘t do that sort of stuff you don‘t have any initiative/work ethic. But we all quickly realized we didn‘t have the attention span at the time, as the whole world was in flux. I know it took me a couple months to be able to concentrate on anything at all, and it‘s still a challenge. 1mo
