Sculptor's Daughter
Sculptor's Daughter: A Childhood Memoir | Tove Jansson
5 posts | 8 read | 5 to read
Tove Jansson's first book for adults was a memoir, capturing afresh the enchantments and fears of her Helsinki childhood. Restored to its original form, Sculptor's Daughter gives us a glimpse of the mysteries of winter ice, the bonhomie of balalaika parties, and the vastness of Christmas viewed from beneath the tree.

Pickpick

Translated into English as The Stonecutter‘s Daughter.

This is Jansson‘s childhood memoir. I enjoyed her descriptions of her childhood and a child‘s imagination, like how she makes a theater from the ruins of a sauna.

If you liked her Summer Book, you will like this.

Four #womenintranslation from my shelves. One translated from Swedish to Danish (tagged book), two from English to Danish (Still Alice and Wuthering Heights) and one from German to English 📚🌍
