Strip Jack
Strip Jack: An Inspector Rebus Novel | Ian Rankin
7 posts | 15 read | 4 to read
Gregor Jack has it all: young, wealthy, and charming, he's a highly respected member of Parliament, with a beautiful wife--and a closet bursting with skeletons. When he's caught in a police raid on an Edinburgh brothel, his house of cards begins to topple. Enter Detective John Rebus: he smells a set-up. When Jack's flamboyant wife Elizabeth disappears, Rebus uncovers a full-house of orgies, drunken parties, an incestuous "Pack" of deceitful chums...and ultimately Elizabeth's badly beaten body. Now Rebus is on a new quest--to find a killer who holds all the cards. Strip Jack is a stellar entry in Ian Rankin's series, which The New York Times calls "A superior series."

My plan was to finish reading this this morning, but when everyone‘s in the house it‘s bloody impossible to get more than 20 minutes reading at a time!! Anyway, finished this afternoon, the usual good detective story that had you guessing until the end , changed my mind a few times! Really enjoying this series now 👍🏻

LeahBergen Isn‘t it nice to be alone in the house? 😆😆 4y
TrishB @LeahBergen I would literally pay anything for a few hours on my own. I love my family, but....I just want a few hours peace!! The living room door is like a revolving door, one in, one out. 4y
Cathythoughts I really enjoyed this one too ❤️👍🏻 4y

Caroline2 Yes! I know what you mean Trish. 🙄 so many times a day I think, “can everyone just get the hell out of my house please so I can just sit here and read!” 😆 4y
TrishB @Caroline2 or even just let me drink a cup of tea in silence! 4y
Caroline2 @TrishB Yes!! That would be lovely 😊 or even finish a mouthful without being constantly asked a question!! 🙄 4y

Another in an excellent series 👍🏻❤️

julesG Lovely flowers. Do you eat them? I'm asking out of curiosity. Ours have grown so much, I'd love to use the flowers, but don't know what for. 4y
Cathythoughts @julesG We don‘t eat them , but I‘d say you could. But they decorate a salad in a lovely way 👍🏻 they‘re growing wild at the side of our house 4y
julesG They sow themselves for the next year. I need to be careful, otherwise I'll have an invasion of them next year. They've come up in several flower pots this year. 4y

This is the 4th Inspector Rebus mystery, and I did like it, but it was an incredibly slow start, hence the 3 stars. I really like this series, so I knew if I kept reading, that I would be rewarded, and it has an ending that I did not see coming. Although there are still flawed characters, maybe because I‘m getting used to him, I liked John Rebus a lot more in this book. Forward the series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rebus #4. The plot revolves around a popular politician being caught in an upmarket "hoor hoos" with his trews around his knees. Rebus scents a set-up. And where's the MP's posh totty wife when she should be doing her "stand by your man" act? Rebus is soon up to his ears in a murder investigation. The plot gets a bit over-complicated for my taste but while I think the series has yet to really hit its stride this is a pretty good read.
