Pickpick

Nancy Isenberg tells the story of America's poor class in an engaging and accessible way. Politicians historically thought poor whites irredeemable, which Isenberg explains through laws, judicial opinions, and personal letters. Necessary reading to see how America of the 18th century became America of today. I listened with my sig. other and we both thought it was brilliant. 5⭐️. #2017together

My sig. other & I finished our first "together" book of 2017! We went on an eleven-hour car trip yesterday and this was the perfect length on audiobook. We came to the same conclusions: (1) absolutely loved the octopus facts and the rumination on consciousness, but (2) felt dreadful for the enclosed octopuses (not octopi!) and (3) thought the second half was nowhere near as good as the first. 3⭐️ #2017together

LectricSheep I can remember in college we got into an argument about the plural of octopus and one friend (a classics major) broke in with "TECHNICALLY IT WOULD BE OCTOPODES." And so that's what we've called them ever since. ? 8y
LitLogophile Octopodes! I've never heard that word before, but I like it @LectricSheep 😂 8y

My partner likes to read, but doesn't make it a priority. He asked me to make us a 2017 reading challenge in order to remedy that -- a request that I happily obliged?. The parameters are 1) books I haven't read and 2) a "variety." How did I do??#2017together
