I really enjoyed this one, packed with several entertaining characters and dashes of the bizarre, it was very entertaining (and hilarious at times). It is one I will find myself returning to soon.
Man is born free and is everywhere in chains. It‘s downright indecent to lock a man up against his will. It‘s up to the man‘s own common sense, the way I see it. If a man can‘t see reason about it himself, then there‘s nothing that anybody can do about it.”

A rather short, but very entertaining read. Really about love, romance and marriage, at it‘s core, Anthony Burgess crafted a remarkable journey with quality wit, humor and a tangible endearment about it. I would definitely recommend it!
Found this about 20 years ago in a used bookstore in Pittsburgh. I didn't know much about Anthony Burgess beyond A Clockwork Orange, but something compelled me to buy it. I'm glad I did. Enderby is a recurring character in Burgess's novels, a poet on the far side of middle age who in this story is contracted by a theater company in a tiny Indiana town to write the libretto for a Shakespeare musical. Burgess is an extremely witty, clever writer.
I skipped the #bookstore prompt for #riotgrams because I didn‘t want to “accidentally” buy a bunch of new books. So now, for #summerschool, here‘s my small non-fiction shelf. (Some humour mixed in here as well.)

"Before we can study language coolly, we must strangle our group prejudices; we must explode a great number of hoary fallacies, themselves derived from emotional attitudes. As no language is either beautiful or ugly, so no language in intrinsically either superior or inferior to another. The fact that English has become a world auxiliary is no evidence that it is a better language than Basque or Finnish;(24)
Gonna be reading some twisted stuff this coming week. #aclockworkorange #anthonyburgess #undeadgirlgang #lilyanderson
😆 This quote made me laugh because my hubby snores and with me being a light sleeper, he is sometimes sleeping alone. #quotsyjan18 #sleep
