Not new to me, but it may be new to you: Wombats poop square poops! The wombat is one of my favorite animals. Here is some more (new) info for you: Wombats have an extra bony plate on their butts that they can use to crush & kill predators by slamming it up against the predator's neck/head as they're pursuing the wombat into its hole. lil1inblue @WildAlaskaBibliophile My BFF would have been Wombat if she had been a boy. And I'm not sure why my other friend ended up as Cory instead of Wombat, but knowing his parents, I suspect his Mom vetoed Wombat. It was his nickname, though! So strange that there were 2 people in the same class, though! 2w

After reading her biography I really wanted to read some of her books. This is the third I have read and the first she had published in 1990. It‘s taken me a long time to get through, it was not a page turner. The way she writes is exquisite. I‘m sure if she had lived this young woman would have written many great Aussie stories. I felt a bit sad leaving Clementine , the main character and narrator, at the end of the book.

The latest instalment in the Hirsch series, set in the borderland where rural becomes outback, involves a missing backpacker, a body in a suitcase, a family of petty crooks & the online world of bullying, scamming & racist, ableist propaganda. It takes place during the Covid-19 pandemic & I really liked the way that fact of life is used. This is such a good series. TW in spoiler comment. #ozfiction

Sitting outside in the relative morning cool I finally finished this beautiful story. I think part of me didn‘t want it to end . Having read her biography first shed a different light on this book for me I think. Knowing what I know about her life and way way too early death , even her acknowledgments made me tear up. I‘m about to search out 2 of her previous books.
