Insanely long, but worth every moment.

I actually picked this book up randomly from the library convinced it was just going to be some weird presidential biography that I wouldn‘t make it through because of how big it was. After so long of dealing with Trump‘s inane ramblings, I almost forgot what a president should sound like.

But it was worth it.

I needed this. Especially in today‘s world. I can‘t wait for book 2.

My Barack Obama inspired book stack. My library holds came in all at once of course (the top two plus two others that weren‘t on President Obama‘s list.

I took my time with this one because it's almost 800 pages long. I appreciated the inside look at what it's like to be President and how frustrating it must have been to be thwarted at every turn. Also, I really miss this level of sanity, intelligence and introspection. #nokings

AmyG I miss it, too. 😥 4mo

This is not a book by a politician hoping to woo the public. I think that's why I couldn't put it down. Written long before his presidential candidacy began Obama explores his identity & childhood here. White grandparents from Kansas, a father from Nigeria, an upbringing in Hawaii & Indonesia, & his 1st trip to Africa is all included. It's less polished & more powerful because of that. There's a palpable struggle to find his footing in this world.

This book was amazing! It was so much nerdy fun to revisit this election and get the views from insiders from all of the various campaigns. The only downer is that I had this book several days before the election while finishing it a couple of days on the other side of Election Day…those Obama years where progressive thought we turned a corner seem so far away…no offense to those on the other side of the political spectrum.

JoeMo I will bluntly admit, I‘ve had quite enough of saying, “well that was the craziest fucking election I‘ve ever seen!” 🤷‍♂️😂🤦‍♂️ (edited) 11mo
