Book Twenty in Kenyon's Dark-Hunter series is a vast improvement on the dud that was Retribution but this one still felt lackluster to me. Our heroine is Lydia, a Dream-Hunter and these beings are the least exciting of the supernatural beings in the DH world, the Wonder Bread of beings. Our Hero is Seth, Son of Egyptian God Set, an immortal demigod, Mr. Tall, Tortured, and Ripped. To save his life, Seth needs to get the "key" to the entrance ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick of Olympus from his captive, Dream Hunter Solin. Lydia goes into Azmodia, one of the Hell Realms, to keep the secret safe.

You aren't going to jump into this series at #20, so indulge my rant, please and thank you. Most of the early characters have been sidelined at this point, there are entirely too many pantheons being incorporated, and as much as I love a hot guy, they all seem mid-20's, ridiculously tall, and emotionally cut-off until this⬇️ 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick one magical woman charms him in less than 24 hours. I need variety. Show me one immortal who might be over everyone's shit but still finds the joy in the little things...or at least pranks his human familiar! Will I read on? Of course! I already owns them and I'm hopeful that book 22 picks up a little bit. (No, I didn't skip book 21. That one is set to be a hot mess.)

Maybe I'm getting too old for this shit. Maybe after 20 books, they are ⬇️ 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick entirely too formulaic. Maybe Kenyon's personal life started to affect her writing. What I do know is that this book doesn't bring us into the greater DH world all that much. We get a blink and you miss it cameo from an OG Dark-Hunter and some of these guys who sound familiar but didn't stand out. At least if we take another jaunt through New Orleans we'll inevitably grab a beer at Sanctuary. ⬇️

#Pop21 #BookOnYourTBRWithTheUgliestCover This may not technically be the MOST tragic looking, but it was certainly the first one that came to mind. Nothing about this cover looks like a Paranormal Romance. Young Fred Savage in The Princess Bride would be disappointed to find that this is a kissing book. So perhaps the Most Rage Inducing Cover is a more apt description, but again, indulge me. 3y

BethM I feel you so much! I gave up at book 28. Let me tell you- between where you‘re at and where I‘m at- they only get more bland and formulaic. I‘m officially done. I -may- entertain a copy through a library or scribd but I‘m done giving my@money. Even then I‘m just not sure I have it in me to continue. 3y

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick @BethM It's funny you say that! My boyfriend points out her books when he sees them on sale and I've started telling him it's not worth it anymore. There's a readin they're on sale. 🤣 Sad because I really enjoyed the early books, but maybe once I'm caught up I can identify where they went off the rails and open up some space on my bookshelves. 3y

BethM Yeah I really loved the early books. I thought they went off the rails at 25/26 but I read them as they were published so it may have been earlier and I just didn‘t notice right away. I‘m actually just about to get rid of my collection bc we‘re moving and I have to significantly downsize. 3y
