Pickpick

I am in the minority for #CampListy24 but I really enjoyed this, I thought it was a fascinating look at culture through the eyes of a fictional journalist with a true crime murderess as the inspiration. I don't normally like food based books but I thought it worked well here, I found myself eating a lot more rice than I normally do!
I liked how Reiko and Rka play off each other & are played by Kajii. Well written and lots to ponder.

Bookwormjillk I enjoyed it too! 2mo
Suet624 I gave this a so-so rating but I have to admit I've been eating a lot more rice with butter and soy sauce. :) I think the book had more of an effect on me than I originally thought. 2mo
ChaoticMissAdventures @Suet624 I love a subliminal book moment!! 2mo

Already started James for #CampListy24 glad I am reding it for a group read because I am not sure I would be able to get through it on my own.

Middlemarch is this months classic being a spin will encourage me to jump in!

I don't know if I will be able to stop at the half way mark! I had my doubts about this but I am enjoying the first half, and looking into the real woman this story is based off of, excited to discuss.

BarbaraBB I haven‘t looked into her yet but it‘s a good idea to do so! 3mo
squirrelbrain Good idea to look into the real person! 3mo

Pickpick

Pick, but I didn't love this as much as others seem to. 3.5⭐

I enjoyed the space writing, and the characters. I am really glad we did this for #CampListy24 the discussions (though I was late to them due to family obligations) were very well thought out and made me sit with the book more than I would have on my own. I loved that the island itself felt like a character, and Mary was my favorite. I liked how language - nonverbal and verbal 👇

ChaoticMissAdventures Played such a large part of the story while Davies used language itself so sparingly. 3mo
ChaoticMissAdventures Overall though I thought this was fine but it didn't have the same impact on me as it did for others in the chat. I read a lot of quiet books and this reminds me of The Wren The Wren where I am pretty sure I might not think about it again anytime soon 3mo
