Arsenic and Old Lace | Joseph Kesselring

Cary Grant is my fave Old Hollywood actor (I own all 72 of his movies 😳). My fave movie of his by far is the hilarious dark comedy Arsenic & Old Lace. It was filmed in 1941 but released in 1944. During this time, Cary became a United States citizen & donated his entire salary from this movie to the war effort. Can‘t recommend it enough!

AnnCrystal 👏🏼🤩🎬😍👍🏼...LOVE Cary Grant! And I'm the worst fan, because I haven't watched all his movies nor do I own them 🤔😂...Bravo! I didn't even know that he donated his entire salary, a sweet Champion!

Excellent Haiku 👏🏼🐝👍🏼🎬🐝💖.

BBC made his life story. I so hope I get to see it one day. Have you? I read that his childhood wasn't a happy one. As an adult, he found his mother (who his father told him was dead), and took care of her 💝.

AnnCrystal P.S.

I always wanted to see a continuation to Arsenic & Old Lace...a fun storyline might be where Mortimer's child or grandchild comes to own the “house“ by inheritance. It's been all boarded up and abandoned by Mortimer. The grandchild goes against the warning left by Mortimer, and plans to open a restaurant or B&B only to learn the place is haunted by the buried bodies in the basement and “the uncle.“

I'm always making up continuations 😂🎬💝.

JenlovesJT47 @AnnCrystal ooh that sounds so intriguing! You should write some fanfiction! I downloaded a copy of the play today, I‘ve never read it. There are a bunch of Cary bios, I‘m not sure which one the BBC is but I‘ve seen most of them, they‘re very good. Jason Isaacs played Cary in a movie a couple of years ago, based on Dyan Cannon‘s book about him. It‘s not perfect but he did a good job. They focus a lot on his mom and their difficult relationship. 2d
JenlovesJT47 @AnnCrystal I cannot for the life of me remember the name of the bio I‘d call the “definitive” one, but it came out in the mid 2000s and I have a copy of it on DVD somewhere, I‘ll have to dig it out. The movie with Jason Isaacs is called Archie. It‘s a miniseries. They mess up the timelines of some of the dates which irked me, but other than that, I enjoyed it. Dyan‘s book is very good, as is his daughter‘s, Jennifer. Can‘t get enough of Cary. ♥️ 2d
AnnCrystal Thank You @JenlovesJT47, I will keep this screen shot for reference info...I need to become a better fan 😂👌🏼, even with my Batman obsession, I am so far behind on info. 💝🤔💝🤗💝. (edited) 2d

Not a Hitchcock you'd think of right away, but grippingly good.

Eggs Agree-it‘s a compelling one. After I watched the Cary Grant series I decided to rewatch some of hitchcock‘s movies. N x NW, Charade, To Catch a Thief, man who knew too much, Rope 1y

After reading this book I want to watch all his movies, including Bringing up Baby which is my all time favorite movie and which I‘ve watched so many times I‘ve lost count.

I love him so.

This was an amazing, although fictional, account of Cary Grants life. Dialogue reads like one of his funny movies from the 30s. Quick witted. But it was also informative. I had no clue about his personal life. He‘s it‘s fictional but it reads like a bio.

Mehso-so

A detailed, honest biography that doesn't shy away from revealing Grant's flaws. I would give this a pick, but I listened to the audiobook and the narrator mispronounces many famous names, which is why I'm rating it so-so.
