Love Ella‘s version. Walk the bridge over the Farmington River several times a week.

squirrelbrain That walk looks lovely! 5y
Cinfhen We‘ve been driving through Canada & Upstate NY and I‘m blown away by the beauty of nature. Especially all the rivers 😻 5y
kspenmoll Both areas are truly gorgeous! Enjoy your trip! 5y

A bit on the nose, I know. Though it's described as just a pool- maybe she would have had to shed a few more, or have grown even larger to deliver a river? 😧🏊

mrsthilkey I've read this one several times. 💛 5y
squirrelbrain Loved this one, if that‘s the right thing to say about such a 💔 book.... 5y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @mrsthilkey I‘m not sure if I could read it again!! I‘ll wait until I need a good cry!! 😭😭😭 (edited) 5y
mrsthilkey @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I decided after reading The Kite Runner I wouldn't read it again, even though it was great. Hosseini's third novel, And the Mountains Echoed, was horribly sad. 💔 Still love the writer though. 5y
Cinfhen I just reread this book in June 😭😭😭😭😭I listened on audio....so good 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @mrsthilkey I‘ve still got to read a The Kite Runner!!! 5y

Two rivers and two river books that may induce crying for the #CryMeARiver prompt. The tagged book is a beautifully written novella set along the banks of the Rio Grande. The second is on my #TBR & is set on the Shenandoah River & seems like a bit of a tearjerker. 😭📚

Dolly Nice composition! 5y
squirrelbrain The tagged book sounds really interesting - stacked... 5y

“Grief reunites you with what you've lost. It's a merging; you go with the loved thing or person. You follow it a far as you can go. But finally, the grief goes away and you phase back into the world. you don't ever completely come back from where you went - a fragment broken off your pulsing, pumping heart is there still. A cut that never heals.”

Heart of Darkness | Conrad, Joseph

(Day 1 - #CryMeARiver)

*I think Conrad‘s book was where I first gleaned the trope of river as life. To quote Conrad: “[T]he last pages of ‘Heart of Darkness‘ where the interview of the man and the girl locks in ... the whole 30000 words of narrative description into one suggestive view of a whole phase of life and makes of that story something quite on another plane than an anecdote of a man who went mad in the Centre of Africa.” ♥️

squirrelbrain Very clever! ❤️ 5y

So Long a Letter | Mariama B

Sometimes a certain book comes into your head when you see a prompt and you‘re not exactly sure why. This is that book for me today.

A powerful epistolary novella, this is a letter written by Ramatoulaye to a friend after the demise of her marriage. She is coming to terms with her past, in a melancholy but hopeful way.

Cinfhen Isn‘t it strange how our minds work?? My daughter read this in HS and couldn‘t stop talking about it. It left such an impression on her 5y

Very little crying, but lots and lots of river in this one. And a distinct lack of spring cleaning.

squirrelbrain 🤣 A lack of spring cleaning - love that! 🤣 5y
