"One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, / Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”
A book that breaks your ? and gives you hope ?
The Kindle edition is on sale for $1.99 on US Amazon right now!
I bought A Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite Runner from a book sale at about $2 each. This has been one of my best books of the year. It tugged at my heart but also opened me up to a whole different world, it made me appreciate my childhood and peace that I usually take for granted. I always pray for the children in Afghanistan. Can't wait to read Kite Runner more of Khaled Hossein
A captivating story unveiling the lives of burqa clad women in Afghan.Through Mariam & Laila, the splendid Suns that hid behind her walls, the book takes you to the dreams, love & talent that was shelled by the war bombs & the patriarchal men who wore an unseen burqa over their stinking mindset!A tale of great courage, passion & desire of women who are much more than the mere number of husbands and kids they have and how much they were marred for!
It's an amazing book and it makes you so emotional.
A Captivating Story of Afghan Women. Powerful portrait of female suffering under the Taliban, Soviet, and other groups.
Insight on Atrocities on innocent Afghan People.
It will make you sad, cry, and at last will make you feel gratitude.

What a gripping read. Sometimes I forget what an “ivory tower” I, and many of us, live in. This book is moving from start to finish. The way the author writes kept me reading even when I should‘ve been doing something else. Not the happiest of reads, so be prepared, but definitely a read that causes pause and makes you think, rethink, evaluate, and reevaluate so much. Excellent. Please leave a comment “if you love this, you‘ll also like [...]”
This one had been on my TBR list for a while now. I‘m glad I finally got around to listening to it. It‘s a heavy, emotional read so it‘s time for something a little lighter.
This book is gripping! I love books that move your emotions and senses! Please recommend ones you love that do the same!! Also, I cannot figure out how to post a pic without Litsy cropping it! Let‘s see if it posts ok so long as I don‘t manipulate it! Happy Thursday!
This book definitely broke my heart. The story of two women in Afghanistan, born to completely different circumstances and generations, who end up married to the same man. It is a story of friendship, betrayal, war, loss, abuse and ultimately love. This book will stay with me for a long time and will ultimately be one of my favorites. It‘s ready to travel and hopefully touch another reader. #bookcrossing #bookcrosser #bookmail
This book was devastating and it made me have an ugly cry more than once! It is the story of friendship and heartache of two strong women who live in Afganistan. I was surprised that it was written by a man.
This is a book that will stay with me and is one of my favourites for this year.
Thanks @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks for the recommendation.
To @JaneyWaneyB ,
Thank you so much for everything in my #sits swap! As you can see, I've made myself a hot chocolate already, & I'm looking forward to using all the other goodies. I LOVED the notes on the wrapping paper too! I loved The Kite Runner so I'm looking forward to reading Hosseini's second book, & I almost bought Confessions the day your parcel arrived - I'm glad I didn't! 😂
PS Thanks @Chrissyreadit for organising!
A relationship between two women married to the same man starts off as hatred and jealousy and turns into friendship and alliance. Such a profound story filled with many many trials that shape these women. This is a heartbreaking page turner that will forever be in my top favorites ten. Go check it out!
A must read! So eye opening. I cried multiple different times. A story about two women....Mariam is an illegitimate child, and suffers from both the stigma surrounding her birth along with the abuse she faces throughout her marriage. Laila, born a generation later, is comparatively privileged during her youth until their lives intersect and she is also forced to accept a marriage proposal from Rasheed, Mariam's husband.
I read this book some time ago but I am yet to 'recover' from this book. Simply amazing, heart-wrenching, the story stays with you and haunts you forever. One of my all-time favourites.
Tagged - always shoving it in peoples hands or giving as a present. Also The Book Thief.
I think it was probably IT last year, next one coming up soon.
All the salads with Pimms
Too many to count!
❤️❤️ will do
This is the hardest great book I‘ve read all year. It spans decades in Afghanistan, and tells two women‘s stories. Family, motherhood, and enduring oppression and war are the biggest themes.

Looking for suggestions. This and one other book on my shelf have printing issues that make them impossible to read completely. I know I can‘t donate or sell them to a used book store.
Do I just put them in the trash? (gasp!) Any crafters want them? Other ideas? TIA
Story of two Afghanistan women, their struggles and their bond.

#ReRead Just as good as the first time reading. I had forgotten a lot of the book, so I was caught off guard several times. My heart ached for Mariam and Laila. What a gift for a writer, especially male, to create such beautiful strong, resilient women. I highly recommend listening to the audio. The narrator was phenomenal and her accent added an extra layer of authenticity and originality. #pop19 #40prompts Completed ✅
This #ReRead is definitely living up to my first time reading but I almost forgot how heartbreaking this story was. Hosseini is such a magnificent writer, he writes women so naturally and beautifully. #Audio #Hoopla
2019 Book 23: If you don‘t know anything about the Middle East, this book will enlighten you. Reading books like this makes me so thankful to be a woman born in the United States. My heart breaks for the oppressed women who are still suffering this type of abuse, although I am glad to know there are men who value women in those countries. Highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Calling all London littens who booked to come to the Thousand Splendid Suns play tomorrow! Should we arrange meeting up there?
Unfortunately I can‘t remember who‘s coming! @Mitch if you remember could you tag??
This portion of text made me realise how true these words were. Boys, and by extension most men, usually refrain from saying stuff like 'I miss you' but show their care through actions while most women express their love through words as well. Such wonderful and realisitic writing from Khaled Hosseini! ❤️
Next up 📖 ☺
