From #DearEnglishMajor on Insta 😂 When parents in the Library who haven‘t read/ seen Harry Potter but STILL believe they know everything about the plot & “facts on “ how it‘s teaching our youth witchcraft 🙄*slowly move my glasses to the bridge of my nose to stare at them incredulously* you have come to lecture at the wrong librarian. READ THE BOOK ( heaven forbid ) before you state opinions that you claim as your own! Do the RESEARCH. #Soap 📦

JoScho It scares me what parents teach their children. I had a kid use Hello Kitty tape to decorate her sketchbook and then came back and said she had to change it because HK is bad because she has no mouth-some religious garble, her mom would be mad and I was just like “ok baby we will change it” 🙄 (edited) 6y
Emily92Bibliophile @JoScho so Sad 😢And really I respect any ones opinion, whether it‘s for or against the book series. They have a right to their beliefs and opinions. BUT it‘s when they come to battle about a topic they have not read at all 😳I also love the look of surprise when they quote scripture and I tell them I am a Christian and it is not teaching witchcraft in any shape or form. Purely fantasy literature, people ! (edited) 6y
JoScho For sure! To each his own but I hate that they teach their children these things that ruin what would otherwise be fun. 6y
LibrarianRyan When I used to run a kids book club I picked Whispering to Witches as our October book. It's a cute story with a great message about family over half the parents pulled their kid from club that month because the book was about witches. One of the strictest most religious parents didn't pull their kid out because the dad was reading every book club book before his kids. He loved the book and thought his daughters would to. 6y
Emily92Bibliophile @JoScho 💯 agree. My hope is for those children with those type of parents that will grow up to not be that same way with their own children, and explore these types of books together. @LibrarianRyan I love that one parent did that. Read the book if you are concerned and before you make any drastic opinions or decisions. But I feel awful for the other half of children whose parents didn‘t even bother to look into their concerns for the book. 😢 6y
