What this #pucturebook #biography of #AlbertEinstein does well is show how young Albert‘s “oddities” were in fact normal for him (as they might be for the young readers of this book —and their parents). It also shows how Einstein lived and created in his brain as he participated in ordinary life (see lovely illustration above of dad Einstein thinking!). Short author‘s note and bibliography. Written and illustrated by #DonBrown

I really enjoy the charm and wittiness of #DonBrown‘s illustrations in this #picturebook #biography of #AlbertEinstein.

This #picturebook #biography of #MarkTwain does a good job of showing how his childhood experiences influenced his work. The watercolor illustrations by writer #DonBrown are also quite charming. There‘s a short author‘s note with more info, and a brief bibliography.

Charmingly illustrated #picturebook #biography of #NeilArmstrong by #DonBrown. Again, I wish there was an author‘s note with more information.

One of the things I most enjoy about reading #picturebooks is learning new and unexpected things, like “barbecue rolls” to keep a space capsule from broiling or freezing. #DonBrown #illustration

Lovely #picturebook biography of #MaryAnning, the 19th century fossil hunter and seller who taught herself all about the science of fossils and the geology of her little slice of English coast. I wish there‘d been an author‘s note with more information. Written and illustrated by #DonBrown

I knew that #JimThorpe was a celebrated Native American Olympian, but I did not now that he was stripped of his medals and records shortly after winning them when a newspaper revealed he had been paid for playing baseball, which made him ineligible to participate in the Olympics. It wasn‘t until 70 years later (almost 30 years after his death), that his amateur status and records were reinstated and his family received copies of his gold medals.

BookishMarginalia Written and illustrated by #DonBrown, this #picturebook biography contains an informative author‘s note about Thorpe‘s life as well as a bibliographical note about sources. 3y

This is another tough one, but necessary. We can‘t forget what happened there, and how the failures of government officials made the tragedy worse. The text is well-chosen, effective in its matter-of-factness. The illustrations grab you. Highly recommended. Written and illustrated by #DonBrown #HurricaneKatrina

This one packs a punch! Well-chosen details, quotes from eyewitnesses and survivors, clear text, and impactful illustrations teach about what happened on September 11, 2001. It‘s a good reminder for us who lived through that time and an effective intro for those born afterwards. #September11 #WorldTradeCenter
