#FridayNightShare #MidsummerSolace

🌞 I don't have a go-to book when I'm feeling low or struggling. Just the act of isolating to dive in a book brings me peace and comfort.
🌞 My favorite format is physical books 📚 While I read a huge ton of magazines online, ebooks I rarely read. I just can't do audio.
🌞 I read mostly inside. During the day, on my couch in the living room, at night in bed ;)

@Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie

kspenmoll Poetry in many forms I find uplifting as well as anything by John O'Donohue. 1w
JulietteReadsALot @kspenmoll Thanks for the recommendation ;) 1w

#MidsummerSolace

It's time for our last #FridayNightShare (for now). It will be back in December for #MidwinterSolace

🌞 What's your go-to book when you're feeling low or struggling?
🌞 Which format do you prefer? 📚 🎧
🌞 Where is your most ideal reading location or environment?

@Chrissyreadit @TheBookHippie

kspenmoll Go to books: poetry & anything by John O'Donohue. I love physical books best, but kindle/phone for traveling, waiting for appointments. I love to read in my office in my couch with my cats & on porch. 1w
AllDebooks ❤️ Thanks for your great answers. There is nothing like a tangible book to absorb yourself in the story. I find a 🐈 essential for comfort. 1w
AllDebooks My go to to destress are always short stories, particularly nature or folklore genres. My favourites are The Mistletoe Bride by Kate Mosse, Januaries by Olivie Blake and 1w
AllDebooks I prefer reading outdoors or tucked up in bed. I prefer reading a book to ebooks but, you know, shelf space is limited! 🤷‍♀️ I've just got into audioboooks over the last 2 years, and they have been a gamechanger. Very relaxing listening to them before falling asleep. 1w

#MidsummerSolace

#FridayNightShare (better late than never) 🌞

What books do you go for in the summer months? ☀️
Recommend a favourite sunny summer solstice read. 🌞

@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

AllDebooks I love revisiting the Greek myths in summer. I'm so happy there are so many retellings to discover. For non-fiction, I recommend this incredible scientific and cultural history of the star that gives us life. 2w
kspenmoll Summer is a catch up time for me. Reading #14books14weeks from my TBR which is fun. Also want to let my mood dictate my choices. Want to read Summer‘s Hum & 2w
Dilara I've been known to read a book set in winter or in a cold country when it's scorching outside for its psychologically-cooling effect 😁 And also - but that is not specific to summer - I tend to keep those big doorstops for when I'm on holiday.
And now, I really want to read Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies again...

JuniperWilde @AllDebooks what are your three fave retellings. I loved A Thousand Ships, Circe 2w
JuniperWilde I‘ve always got two books on the go - one fiction and the other non fiction. That said - currently I have Raising Hare as my fiction pick even tho it‘s technically non. 2w
AllDebooks @kspenmoll I'm really enjoying #14books14weeks 📚 It's really helping whittle through my bedside tbr stack. 2w
AllDebooks @Dilara Yes, I love a big chunkster too, esp in the summer. Lazy, sunny day reading is the best. 👌 2w
AllDebooks @JuniperWilde A thousand ships is #1, loved The Song of Achilles and 2w
AllDebooks @JuniperWilde I've heard great things about Raising Hare 2w
JuniperWilde @AllDebooks I‘m going to hunt down Medusa. I love her story. 2w

Let's swap our favourite reads to relax or calm us. It's been a stressful week in world events, never mind what's going on in our own lives.

@TheBookHippie @Chrissyreadit

AllDebooks My comfort reads are rereads of old favourites like Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, Fingersmith, The Quincunx. 3w
Bookwormjillk I just finished and loved Heartwood last night. I also love listening to the Ramona Quimby audiobooks. Ramona always makes me laugh. 3w
LitStephanie @AllDebooks Fingersmith is an interesting choice for calmj 3w

LitStephanie oops. Calming. I go two ways when stressed about the world. Sometimes I read history that reminds me things used to be even worse and the gen 3w
LitStephanie OMG. Sorry, I am a spazz today. . . the general arc is progress. Most recently got comfort that way by listening to Marc Morris's King John. Sometimes I just want something happy and not remotely challenging and opt for romance. My most recent stress reduction medicine romance read was The Arrangement by Mary Balogh. Blind guy and skinny lady who isn't very pretty find true love. How can that not make you feel good, LOL? 3w
AllDebooks @LitStephanie thanks for the recommendations. I think Fingersmith is more of a comfort to me as I know it well. Sometimes deriving comfort from a familiar plot/characters is very therapeutic, be that tv shows, movies, or books. 3w

Missed posting during #fridaynightshare but enjoyed seeing everyone‘s posts 💕 tagged book is not my favorite Hardy novel, but I loved reading this during May. (Armadale will likely be my favorite read of the summer, though.)

Yesterday I practiced watercolor sketching while reading in the Mediterranean garden at Longwood. I love this new conservatory— modern arches with classic taste #naturalitsy #midsummersolace

kspenmoll So beautiful. My family visited Longwood for a day once- indescribable expetience 4w
StaceGhost @kspenmoll wonderful! It‘s one of the things that makes me happy I live in this part of the country. Such a gorgeous place ❤️I hope you all get to visit again! They‘ve just completed a lot of renovation projects 4w
BkClubCare Far from the Madding Crowd is my favorite ❤️ 4w
StaceGhost @BkClubCare it‘s so good! I love it and am 100% planning to watch the adaptation later lol I think I love Return of the Native more rn just because I hadn‘t read it before 4w

#FridayNightShare #MidsummerSolace

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter is, so far, my favorite 2025 read thus far.

TheBookHippie I heard this was good! 4w
AllDebooks I'm up for anything by SGJ. Thanks for sharing. 😀 4w
Bookish_Thoughts @TheBookHippie Every time I think he‘s done his best work-Indian Lake trilogy or The Only Good Indian-he writes something even better! 4w
Bookish_Thoughts @AllDebooks Me too! There are a lot I haven‘t read because who can keep up? 🤣 4w
