What is your stance on banned books? I feel like most of us agree on books not being banned. I personally don‘t think any book should be banned and agree with the above statement.

Did you know that in the 2021-22 school year over 1600 books were banned?!

CSeydel I think people need to be more careful about their use of the word “banned.” It‘s a very different issue to say a book won‘t be part of a curriculum or won‘t be available on the shelves of an elementary school library than to say bookstores aren‘t allowed to sell it or public libraries are prohibited from stocking it. I generally am not bothered by school-based “bans”; they have to do what‘s right for their budget & their community. 2y
tonymp My stance is that I just ran away from the United States first chance I got, because this kind of thing is not normal in the rest of the democratic world. Sorry not sorry I left you behind. Enjoy your decay of your civilization that is going to poopy-doopy land. 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @tonymp where did you go?! 2y

tonymp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Spain, but by accident. Now I see it's a happy accident for the past decade plus a couple of years. Insanity, really, looking back at home and seeing this crap. All those news items you find embarrassing actually make it to the news on the regular ol' TV here, too. Book bannings included. 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @tonymp wow!! I would love to just visit Spain! My husband was supposed to leave yesterday for Spain for military training, but couldn‘t go because of his recent stroke. I bet you love it there! It is embarrassing what is going on in our country right now! 2y
tonymp @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I've lived here for more than a decade, and I am an American, so I get what you're saying. I actually come from a military family. Two brothers, navy, and my nephew, air force. I'm actually the odd one out, not military! Spain, for a visitor, is fun. Just like the United States is fun for a visitor. Live here a while and you'll see, different country, same old poopy. LOL. 2y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Lol!! Everywhere is poopy!! 😂😂 2y
dabbe Did anyone say poopy? 💩😃😊 2y
GinaKButler @CSeydel Whole-heartedly agree. My school library in the 80s didn‘t shelve Flowers In The Attic (and her whole series), Stephen King, or Judy Blume, and I was still able to devour them. 2y
CSeydel @GinaKButler Right on 👍🏻 2y

ChaoticMissAdventures The library association of the US put out a report saying individual titles banned went up 1,100% from 2020 to 2023. It is disgusting the titles you hear about being pulled, most of which are totally suitable but maybe uncomfortable for the (white) parents. I make it a priority to read and then gift the banned books to my nieces, with a discussion that they should call to discuss anything they do not understand. Which is what my own parents did. 2y
Julsmarshall When they don‘t want you to read certain books, those are the exact ones you should read! #Imwiththebanned 2y
Larkken When there are so many books in the world, even my parents‘ bans only resulted in extra interest for the ones they told me off from reading 🤷🏻‍♀️ but yes, banning access to books is awful and shortsighted and tantamount to telling people what not to think about 😡 2y
