The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby | Francis Scott Fitzgerald
The exemplary novel of the Jazz Age, F. Scott Fitzgeralds' third book, The Great Gatsby
(1925), stands as the supreme achievement of his career. T. S. Eliot
read it three times and saw it as the "first step" American fiction had
taken since Henry James; H. L. Mencken praised "the charm and beauty of
the writing," as well as Fitzgerald's sharp social sense; and Thomas
Wolfe hailed it as Fitzgerald's "best work" thus far. The story of the
fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his love for the beautiful Daisy
Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when, The New York Times
remarked, "gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,"
it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s that resonates
with the power of myth. A novel of lyrical beauty yet brutal realism,
of magic, romance, and mysticism, The Great Gatsby is one of the great classics of twentieth-century literature.

1.F.Scott Fitzgerald,Jack Kerouac,& Virginia Woolf
2.For Fitz & Kerouac where did the magic go? Why did it all end in drink & cynicism?(as if that‘s answerable)with Woolf , let‘s have tea & see where the conversation goes.
3.my guess is about 2500 , if I count, I‘ll post it.Always changing though,I buy, gift , trade, & donate.

I really enjoyed the feel of this story, but was quite surprised with the turn the book took in the second half, most unexpected. Really pleased I finally got to read this, but felt quite a sad and reflected ending. If you haven‘t read it yet, it is quite a quick and easy read.

ValerieAndBooks It is quite good 💖. First time I read it was in high school. And if you look closely at the cover, those are naked ladies swimming in the pupils of the eyes. I never knew until it was pointed out in 2w

I finally got around to reading this classic after seeing and hearing it referenced throughout my lifetime literary journey. It felt like a very nicely paced, structured, compact novel. I can't say many of the characters strike me as likeable except perhaps the narrator, but maybe that's the point. Overall, the story is perhaps a warning about letting an obsession with the past derail one's future.

I had to read this for school, and I honestly thought I‘d hate it. (Spoiler alert: I didn‘t!) I think what I loved most about this book was the writing style, the way Fitzgerald describes early New York paints a beautiful picture of the glitz and glamour of the time period. The characters weren‘t ones I was incredibly attached to, but I felt like I understood them, and I liked how they weren‘t supposed to be redeemable. Overall, really good!

My sibling cats, back when they were alive, they NEVER would have shared mama's lap. LOL!

LauraBeth @8little_paws these two bonded quickly and act like they‘re litter mates. I‘ve never had two cats who weren‘t litter mates do that! Meanwhile, the female cat refuses to have anything to do with these two. 😹 3mo
rretzler 😻 We have an older cat (whose brother is no longer with us). When we got 3 new kittens, one of the kittens decided to befriend the older cat. It‘s a pretty one-sided friendship, but after 2 years, the younger cat (Mycroft )still wants to snuggle with Picasso, much to Picasso‘s annoyance. He‘s learning to tolerate Mycroft, but Mycroft is bigger and sometimes cuddles by laying most of his body on top of Picasso. 3mo

Unpopular opinion: I seriously disliked this book. I don't understand how it became a high school syllabus staple. Fitzgerald sounded like a wannabe poet trying too hard to write romantic prose. If you're after a great novel of the Jazz Age, I would highly recommend checking out Gentlemen Prefer Blondes instead - if nothing else, it's a lot more fun. Palimpsest I read it in high school in the 90s and again before the 2013 movie release. I love it. I love the writing, but I did wonder what he saw in Daisy the second time around, yet I think that was part of the point. Gatsby‘s vision was mostly a beautiful dream. 4mo

Lizzybennetgirl The first time I read it I liked it and thought it was romantic. The second time I realized how delusional Gatsby and Daisy were. Then I thought it was really sad 😢.
