September: Calendar Girl Book 9 | Audrey Carlan

Thanks to super short reads for #bannedbooksweek, I finished 17 books this month. The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy was my favorite. I‘m saving my official October TBR for after the #bookspin numbers come out, because right now my list of books for October has 50 books on it. There‘s no way I can read them all. 😂😂

This is such an important book, for abused kids, for trans kids, for kids in general - because let‘s be honest, people are constantly trying to just shut kids up and keep them from speaking truth to power. Of course that power and those who are power hungry are trying to silence this, too.

We sure would hate for abuse victims to think they would be believed, their friends to think they can stand up for their abused friends, or that kids can change anything. 🙄 The power hungry would never allow such a thing. Especially considering that many of the abusers are the powerful and power hungry. 2mo

WHOA! I was not prepared for the BRUTALITY of this book nor the extremely graphic sexual abuse depicted. Just heartbreaking. Absolutely gutted by this book. I can‘t say I “enjoyed” reading this one, but it‘s definitely a powerful piece of writing. Does this belong in a classroom? I‘m not sure it‘s right for every student but it certainly is the RIGHT place to explore the themes of poverty, inequality, cruelty and damaging beliefs.

Centique This is the most brutal book ive ever read but i do think an experience like that needs to be captured by an amazing author - and Morrison is exactly the right author to make it horrifying but also human. 🙌 14mo

Michreader3 @KaylasReadingNook Yes I love that one, for me though probably Catching Fire! I loved the plot twist of them getting thrown back into the games and I feel like it really set the whole rebellion in motion 14mo
