Sietje got up and left when I tried to get the photo, so you just get her toys today.

I came to really care about these characters and some tears were shed. I think we all know what this is about, it‘s pretty hyped, and I felt like it brought up interesting questions. The main one of course- would you open your box? If I knew what it contained I would not.

I enjoyed this Amy, thank you!

Melismatic I hadn‘t heard of this but sounds like it might be similar to Liane Moriarty‘s latest 5d
Sapphire @Melismatic that‘s funny. I recently bought here one moment thinking I was finally caving after hearing about it for so long, but it was this one I was thinking of! I wonder how close together they were published. 5d
AmyG Glad you enjoyed it! I still haven‘t read it…but glad to hear it‘s good. 5d
Melismatic @Sapphire 😂🤣 too funny! 5d

I loved this story! The way it handled not only how the individual characters dealt with who had a short string vs. a long string but how society as a whole and politics were shaped by the revelations felt very real and very timely given the world we live in 😳. There are a lot of characters to keep up with but I didn‘t even care - I just couldn‘t stop listening! So good! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This book has a ton of characters. Too many really. The concept was interesting. Short string vs long string to represent life, what would you do differently? What the characters do accurately represents how people would really act. It was a decent book.

Jennaree3 Just about to pick this one up. We shall see. As many characters as 7 1/2 deaths of Evelyn hardcastle? Do I need to take notes? lol 2w
OneCent76 Maybe not that many haha. Worth the read, let me know what you think! 1w

3.25/5
+: the idea of the threads, and how knowing your life expectancy could change our society, how would people react, and the play of social media, all these elements were quite realistic and interesting, well executed. Gives a lot of food for thought.

-: some lacking in character's building, quite close to stereotopycal characters at times. Also some plot twists I saw coming a mile away.

Overall good read, especially for a debut novel.

One day every adult on Earth gets a box with a string inside that indicates their life span. Are these boxes #blessings or curses? It‘s hard to say! I think my book club will have lots to discuss.

@CSeydel I started this on audio today and can already tell that it will affect me deeply. As a former hospice nurse, I‘m very aware of unnecessary and often more painful medical interventions that hurt rather than help. There is such a thing as a “good” death, one that allows quality of life in those last days/months rather than quantity. #ALSpine25 @monalyisha

CSeydel Oh wow I didn‘t know you were a hospice nurse! You will no doubt already have thought a lot about the issues he brings up, which I had not. Still, he is an excellent writer, and the book is quite powerful. 1mo
CBee @CSeydel so far I‘m pretty blown away, and his writing is excellent. Great narrator on the audio too, which helps! I won‘t finish it quickly but will listen to it throughout the month 😊 1mo
DogMomIrene I didn‘t know you were a hospice nurse. My husband was a hospice nurse for a couple of years back in the States. Definitely his favorite nursing job because he did learn, and shared with me, that a good death does exist. We‘ve got a small pile of books on death. Will need to check that this one is there. 1mo

CBee @DogMomIrene it was my favorite too, if I‘m being honest. Strange to say but it was so rewarding and I felt honored to be with my patients in their last days ♥️ 1mo
DogMomIrene @CBee That‘s exactly how Matthew felt. It‘s not a nursing position for everyone, but when a person fits, you know. 1mo
CBee @DogMomIrene is he still a nurse? I left years ago but love hearing about other‘s experiences! 4w
DogMomIrene @CBee He‘s retired. He and our pup Bernie just got certified as a therapy dog team. They had their first visit at the hospital with a patient recovering from burns. And he‘s looking at visiting the palliative care home here, which is like a hospice house in the States. So he‘s retired, but finding ways to make a difference for patients. 4w
CBee @DogMomIrene wow, that‘s so lovely ♥️♥️ 4w
