Thank Goodness For Books. As some of you might not know, my dad spent the majority of the month of June in the hospital. So I spent my time whilst keeping him company reading. As a result I completed my board! Dad is finally home! And if any of my reader friends are nurses THANK YOU for all you do. Our nurses rocked! Nurses put the “care” in healthcare. At least ours did. @TheAromaofBooks

Dragon So glad your dad is out of the hospital 💚🐉 1h
Smrloomis Very glad he‘s out! That‘s a long time but at least you put some of it to good use. Hope he‘s feeling much better 🙏🏽 1h
KristiAhlers @Dragon he is! We have home healthcare coming round once a week to monitor the CHF. But he‘s back home doing his thing. I‘m so relieved. 1h

KristiAhlers @Smrloomis it was. Hopefully we now have the CHF under control. 1h

julieclair So glad he‘s doing better! Love your stickers. Aaahhhh…. Paris…..🇫🇷 58m
KristiAhlers @julieclair thank you! I try to give each board a theme. I‘m weird that way. And since I haven‘t been able to get back to my favorite city I shall have to visit via stickers for now! 56m
Jas16 I am so glad to hear that he is doing better! 48m
julieclair I love the idea of a monthly theme! I will make sure to look for your #BookSpinBingo posts at the end of each month. 😀 35m
KristiAhlers @Jas16 thank you! 29m

It's taken me most of today to realize I have zero
motivation because it's the end of the school year,
and apparently my brain still takes that as its cue to
go into Break Mode even though I graduated high school in 2001.

So here I am, learning about opera because it's
basically the only activity that appeals at the mo. I'm
still in the 17th century, which is when opera tried to
decide what it was gonna be when it grew up.

Episode 200 of my book podcast drops TODAY 🎉 — and on it, I have the pleasure of chatting with the amazing Leah Johnson about a book by one of her all-time faves, Sarah Dessen. Leah talks me through my first experience reading JUST LISTEN, a book about every serious topic that somehow manages to navigate all of them pretty much perfectly. 🎧 Link to listen in my bio!

I loved the cover and the blurb. Format wasn‘t for me. It sounded good, but I just couldn‘t get into it. Maybe the print copy isn‘t the right medium and perhaps one day I‘ll try the audio. As it is, time to move on.

ChaoticMissAdventures Oh, yeah, try it on audio! Like Daisy Jones the format is much better on audio, it has a multi cast and they are all great. 2d
SW-T @ChaoticMissAdventures Good to know! Thanks. 🙂 2d

Pickpick

A memoir of singer/songwriter/actress Jewel who grew up with her father among what she describes as “growing up always camping”and a divorced, hippie, manipulative mother. It is her journey both inward and outward of performing, singing, struggling with finances and relationships to her current mature outlook as a single divorced mother. Jewel is as resilient as they get & this memoir is well worth reading for those on their own journeys.

Bookish Song Nr. 37: They Never Take Us Alive

Another song that automatically put different book scenes from Shorefall into my head. The song just reminded me so much of the atmosphere in this part of the trilogy and how I feel whenever I'm reading it.

Pickpick

Told as the written form of a docudrama, this touches on the personal lives of a 1970s fictional rock band. The amazing audio version amplifies personality traits of characters, especially Daisy & Billy, who are both egotistical yet insecure. Daisy is described this way, “She‘s gorgeous—even as a child. She has these stunning big blue eyes—dark, cobalt blue.“ Based on the bookcovers, you'd never know it, so that is my one small quibble. #audiobook

marleed A couple years back I read TJR describe Daisy as a cross between Stevie Nicks and Linda Ronstadt. I love that Elvis Presley‘s granddaughter portrays Daisy in the adaptation- what a great tribute to music. 4d
Ann_Reads @marleed Thank you for mentioning that. I didn't realize Riley Keough is Elvis Presley's granddaughter. I hope the Amazon miniseries stays true to the book. 4d

Juliet, Naked | Nick Hornby

Bailedbailed

While I'm usually taken with Hornby's witty, comic style of writing & his plentiful quirky characters, I couldn't help feeling underwhelmed as I shut this book for good. Juliet, Naked is a typical Hornby novel, humorous & mellow, with sharp-witted observations & interesting characters, but something was missing. Annie's character was a little two-dimensional & I found myself deliberately skipping parts. Marmite! You either love it or hate it!
